About The Position

SMTC Corporation was founded in 1985. SMTC is a mid-size provider of end-to-end electronics manufacturing services (EMS) including PCBA production, systems integration and comprehensive testing services, enclosure fabrication, as well as product design, sustaining engineering and supply chain management services. SMTC has facilities in the United States, Mexico, China and Canada. Services extend over the entire electronic product life cycle from the development and introduction of new products through to the growth, maturity and end-of-life phases. The Production Supervisor is responsible for directing the activities of the leads with an emphasis on product quality, on-time delivery, cost and factory production efficiency. Additionally, the Supervisor is responsible to support the key business metrics, general housekeeping, and workplace safety. In addition the Supervisor is responsible for training and development of employees and ensuring they are adhering to handbook guidelines and rules.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Minimum 3 years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing or production environment preferred
  • Sound working knowledge of lean manufacturing with demonstrated team participation and/or leadership and related continuous improvement successes.
  • Experience in leadership, problem solving, conflict resolution, and organization.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with reading and interpreting data (data driven analysis)
  • Work well independently and in a team environment
  • Working with industrial manufacturing equipment on production line
  • Must be able to utilize general office equipment: Computer, telephone, copy machine, and more.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s or Associate’s in a technical or business related field preferred

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment by maintaining compliance with established policies and procedures including 5S (6S) requirements
  • Ensure a work environment exists for employees that provides strong interaction between all shift team members in order to effectively communicate concerns regarding production.
  • Identify resource needs with backup data such as time studies, capacity, etc., as well as ensure that the production schedule is met
  • Serve as the Team Leader for the assigned shift ensuring proper carryover of production activities and requirements.
  • Set the direction relative to manufacturing goals and direct Leads and associates to ensure day-to-day production needs are met
  • Identify and communicate information to correct factory discipline relative to product quality and defect prevention, product disposition, and rework and/or repair activity. (RCCA)
  • Ensure Material is handled adequately in order to avoid damage and/or prevent loss.
  • Ensure all manufacturing processes needs to build a quality product are in place and up to date.
  • Responsible for understanding and providing input to Capacity Planning as customer's production demands fluctuate.
  • Determine and communicate the direction relative to housekeeping and safety practices.
  • Balance quality, productivity, cost, and morale to achieve positive results in all areas.
  • Review MOV (Mfg. Order Variance) weekly based on Planning/Accounting generated report.
  • Initiate corrective actions as needed to address areas of opportunity within the manufacturing floor.
  • Action any CPAR (Corrective Actions) issued to you with thorough and thoughtful analysis while closing them in required timeframe
  • Monitor and ensure Scrap and DMR’s are managed real-time with the appropriate root cause and corrective action analysis as needed.
  • Ensure cycle counts are performed as needed in order to keep WIP counts accurate.
  • Manage departmental performance measures, including visual controls and provides regular progress reports to manager.
  • Interpret and ensure self and subordinate employees are in compliance with SMTC and department policies and laws.
  • Provide leadership and manage the unit/program/department; make decisions in the best interest of the company; solve problems; develop departmental procedures and conduct meetings.
  • Manage employees and team performance; train or provide adequate training for employees; coach, counsel and motivate employees; evaluate employees; investigate complaints or performance concerns; implement disciplinary action as needed and in consultation with appointment authority and Human Resources;
  • Approve leave and overtime; complete and/or review attendance records; accept resignations; initiate terminations; process layoff actions, create and monitor employee improvement plans. Address and resolve employee concerns.
  • Responsible for accurate time tracking employees reporting to you and your time as well in compliance with government and company requirements
  • Attend and participate in all Customer Focus Team (CFT) meetings as required
  • Performs other duties as assigned
