About The Position

Primarily responsible for overseeing all aspects of processing of surgical specimens including assisting Pathologists during tissue gross examination. Supervises all Histology Technicians and Cytology Assistants at the Palomar Health Downtown Campus and the Pathology Assistants for all three Gross Rooms at Palomar Health. Performs hiring, counseling and terminating of employees as needed. Develops, maintains and revises procedures in Surgical Pathology, Histology and Cytology as appropriate. Responsible for training new employees and monitors competencies. Performs three-month & annual employee performance appraisals. Ensures adequate staffing for PMC, PHDC and POM Surgical Pathology, as well as staffing of histology technicians and cytology assistants. Maintains instruments and equipment. Registers and order tests in the computer. Speak and read English at a level that is sufficient to satisfactorily perform the essential functions of the position. Knowledge of standard office equipment (i.e., calculator, fax, photocopier) and personal computer and computer software skills (i.e., MS Windows, Excel, Access, Word, Powerpoint, internet, e-mail). Windows computer skills including proficient use of keyboarding, use of mouse or keys for functions such as selecting items, use of drop down menus, scroll bars, opening folders, copying and similar operations required upon employment or within the 1st two weeks of employment to perform the essential functions of the job. Performs other duties as assigned. Follows Palomar Health rules, policies, procedures, applicable laws and standards. Carries out the mission, vision, and quality commitment of Palomar Health.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma and/or combination of education and experience
  • 1 - 2 years related
  • Speak and read English at a level that is sufficient to satisfactorily perform the essential functions of the position.
  • Knowledge of standard office equipment (i.e., calculator, fax, photocopier) and personal computer and computer software skills (i.e., MS Windows, Excel, Access, Word, Powerpoint, internet, e-mail).

  • Valid Driver's License
