About The Position

Under supervision, performs semi-skilled and skilled work in the janitorial general maintenance of buildings, facilities and equipment. And performs other related duties as assigned. This class is the journey-level position in the Support Services series. Positions at this level work with minimal supervision and perform skilled tasks. MAJOR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES This list is intended only to illustrate the various types of work that may be performed. Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Two (2) years janitorial experience; OR any combination of education and experience which would provide the required knowledge and skills and allows successful performance on the job.
  • Skilled in: Safe and proper care and use of tools and equipment.
  • Safe work practices and procedures.
  • Performing minor equipment maintenance and repairs.
  • Recognizing safety hazards.
  • Performing a variety of routine to skilled janitorial functions.
  • Completing assigned work in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Safely operating janitorial and landscape equipment and handling cleaning chemicals.
  • Knowledge of: Methods, materials, and equipment used in janitorial work.
  • Basic math.
  • Safety and sanitation practices and measures required.
  • Ability to: Effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Read and write.
  • Follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Operate and care for janitorial equipment and supplies.
  • Observe safety requirements and safe work practices.
  • Perform work involving regular physical activity.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative work relationships.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Use initiative; use independent judgment.
  • Arrive to work in a timely manner.

  • A valid and current Washington State driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Funeral Support- set up facilities for culturally appropriate services.
  • Event support-deliver table and chairs, garbage cans, tent set up, stage set up for large tribal government events
  • Performs manual labor and uses various types of hand and small power tools such as hammers, saws, drills.
  • Performs minor adjustments and repairs to such equipment.
  • Sweep and clean facility perimeters.
  • Maintains daily logs and completes work requests on assignments.
  • Identifies supply needs.
  • Strip, wax and scrub various types of floors; vacuum and extract dirt from carpets; machine buff floors; dust, wash and vacuum surfaces.
  • Performing equipment maintenance and repairs
  • Mix and use cleaning solutions and chemicals following directions recommended by product manufactures.
  • Move, stock and loads and unloads materials, equipment and supplies.
  • Drive pickup trucks, automobiles and other small, motorized vehicles in connection with manual work activities.
  • Performs minor repairs or adjustments, lubrication and safety checks on mechanical and cleaning equipment.
  • Assist in room set-ups, moving and arranging furniture, office relocations, and setting-up and removing chairs, tables, room dividers, etc.
  • Perform special cleaning and special event duties as required; work varying shifts.
