About The Position

Under immediate supervision, performs varied manual work in janitorial/landscaping and maintaining a variety of buildings, facilities, grounds and equipment and performs other related duties as assigned. This class is the entry-level position in the Support Service series. Positions at this level work under close supervision and perform basic janitorial/landscape tasks.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Six (6) months janitorial/landscape experience; OR any combination of education and experience which would provide the required knowledge and skills and allows successful performance on the job.
  • Skilled in: Safe and proper care and use of tools and equipment.
  • Safe work practices and procedures, performing minor equipment maintenance and repairs.
  • Recognizing safety hazards.
  • Performing a variety of routine custodial/landscape functions.
  • Completing assigned work in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Safely operating janitorial/landscape equipment and handling cleaning chemicals.
  • Knowledge of: Basic methods, materials, and equipment used in janitorial/landscape work.
  • Basic math.
  • Ability to: Effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Read and write.
  • Follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Operate and care for janitorial/landscape equipment and supplies.
  • Observe safety requirements and safe work practices.
  • Perform work involving regular physical activity.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative work relationships.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Arrive to work in a timely manner.
  • Attend required training.
  • A valid and current Washington State driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Funeral Support-tent and chair set up, set up facilities for culturally appropriate services, assist with funerals such as, but not limited to: Casket inventory and delivery, funeral inventory supply and delivery.
  • Event support-deliver table and chairs, garbage cans, tent set up, stage set up for large tribal government events
  • Performs manual labor and uses various types of hand and small power tools such as hammers, saws, drills, weed-eaters, blowers, shovels, rakes, hoes and mannix. Performs minor adjustments and repairs to such equipment.
  • Mows, edges and trims lawns using hand or small horsepower mowers, edger’s and sweepers; waters and weeds lawns, shrubs and flower beds; rakes and clears litter; clears brush and gathers leaves.
  • Sweep and clean facility perimeters.
  • Strip, wax and scrub various types of floors; vacuum and extract dirt from carpets; machine buff floors; dust, wash, and vacuum surfaces.
  • Performing equipment maintenance and repairs;
  • As directed, may mix and use cleaning solutions and chemicals.
  • Move, stock and loads and unloads materials, equipment and supplies.
  • May be required to drive pickup trucks, automobiles and other small, motorized vehicles in connection with manual work activities. Performs minor repairs or adjustments, lubrication and safety checks on mechanical and cleaning equipment.
  • Assist in room set-ups, moving and arranging furniture, office relocations, and setting-up and removing chairs, tables, room dividers, etc.
  • Because of the Tribe’s commitment to community service and the well-being of its members, each employee may be expected to perform a wide range of office and field duties from time to time. Such duties may or may not be related to their regular responsibilities.
