About The Position

This position is eligible for the Atlantic Health System ESL (English as a Second Language) Program, which includes 8 weeks of ESL training upon commencement of employment. Atlantic Health System is proud to present the launch of our ESL (English as a Second Language) Program. The focus of this program is to strengthen your communication skills in English while working in one of our eligible positions. The roles are Per Diem and based at Newton Medical Center and Hackettstown Medical Center. Required hours vary, including every other weekend. Starting rate: $18.50/hr Eligible roles include Environmental Aide (Housekeeping) and Food Service Utility Representative. (Details Below) Food Services Responsible for sanitation and regulatory compliance Works in a retail and/ or patient services environment. Assembles and delivers meal trays for patients, restocks items on workstations, collects soiled dishes, scraps trays and washes, sanitizes and restocks flatware and silverware. Monitors patient and retail food lines and test trays for quality, temperature and food safety. Informs department leadership of any safety issues on units, cafeteria or in kitchen. Restocks products for patient use on the tray line. Removes trash from kitchen. Maintains the high standards of AHS in creating appealing presentation and food preparation. Utility duties to include collection, washing and storage of dishes/kitchen equipment , trash removal and overall kitchen sanitation. Cook one duties to include preparing all cold food items, required to fulfill patient, retail, and catering operations. Performs other related duties as assigned. Environmental Aide/ Housekeeping Utilizes appropriate cleaning equipment in cleaning all nursing units, patients' rooms and all other designated facility areas, including the floors, woodwork, sills, vents, sinks, furniture etc. Follows the department's policies and procedures on cleaning, disinfecting and deodorization. Cleans up major spills when necessary and responds to pages in a timely manner. Cleans and restocks housekeeping carts at the end of each shift. Removes all trash and linen within the hospital. Follows directions carefully for cleaning solution preparations and handling of bio-hazard materials. Makes periodic checks for environmental needs in the assigned area. Reports any repairs to maintenance. Keeps abreast of changes in environmental services by attending monthly department meetings. Handles moderately complex issues and problems and refers more complex issues to higher-level staff. Position includes cleaning of bodily fluids. Performs other related duties as assigned. Requirements

  • HS Diploma or GED/Equivalent required or will obtain within 1 year of employment
  • Must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English, or be willing to participate in an on-site ESL class upon hire
  • Must be able to bend/push/pull/lift 50lbs
  • Ability to apply math functions
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to extreme cold and extreme heat
  • Frequent lifting, walking, pushing, pulling and/or carrying objects in excess of 50 lbs
  • Frequent bending and stooping
  • Spends long periods of time standing

Nice To Haves

  • Previous institutional housekeeping experience preferred
  • Minimum one year of food service or retail customer service experience preferred
