About The Position

SSAI seeks a Support Scientist IV to support an Earth Science contract at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. The candidate will provide advanced scientific and technical support for the investigation, development, testing, and operational transition of next-generation land data assimilation and hydrological modeling capabilities within the Land Information System (LIS).

Requirements

• Doctorate degree in computer science, earth system science, atmospheric science or related field and 10 years’ experience in software engineering or development. Or, the equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Demonstrated experience in scientific programming and scripting languages (e.g., Python, Fortran, C/C++, shell scripting)
• Experience with Git/GitLab-based configuration management, version control, and software delivery processes
• Demonstrated experience with land surface modeling and/or data assimilation systems, preferably within LIS or comparable frameworks
• Experience supporting model verification, validation, regression testing, and documentation using defined standards and experiments
• Ability to manage, curate, and analyze large Earth science datasets from satellite, model, and in situ sources

Nice To Haves

• Applied experience with Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning (AI/ML) for Earth science applications (e.g., snow, hydrology, data fusion, analytics)
• Direct hands-on experience with LIS-related components and activities such as: LDAS within LIS, LIS-based GHI, and operational transition workflows
