About The Position

We are looking for a Biological and Chemical Remediation Environmental Scientist! We are seeking a technical lead to manage local projects or provide expertise on large-scale environmental remediation projects with a focus on chemical and biological remediation. This role is responsible for making technical decisions throughout the life of complex remediation projects. The position involves leading and participating in technical teams, mentoring junior staff, and researching and implementing effective remediation solutions. Responsibilities include preparing technical reports and proposals, reviewing and interpreting field and laboratory data, coordinating and directing technical staff, and collaborating with project managers to identify sites where remediation recommendations are appropriate. This role also includes managing project fiscal responsibilities and leading technical communications with subcontractors, teaming partners, clients, and prospective clients, while promoting a collaborative, team-oriented culture grounded in scientific integrity.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in an applied science field (Engineering, Geology, or a related science)
  • 8 - 15 years environmental consulting
  • Current 40-hour HAZWOPER certification or ability to obtain within 30 days
  • Able to obtain site access to secure areas such as Federal or State sites
  • Ability to employ common field practices involving drilling, groundwater sampling, and excavation oversight
  • Ability to read and understand maps, schematic drawings, diagrams, and instruction manuals
  • Proficiency using Word and Excel applications
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
  • Experience with field equipment such as water quality monitoring instruments, photoionization detectors (PIDs), and global positioning systems (GPS) units
  • Knowledge of state and federal environmental regulations and laws, including, but not limited to cleanup guidance and United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA), and Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA)

Responsibilities

  • Assist in designing and implementing complicated remediation projects focusing on chemical and biological treatment methods.
  • Serve as lead author of reports, proposals, technical approaches, work plans, technical correspondence, and project specifications.
  • Manage and complete complex evaluations of field and laboratory data
  • Make technical decisions, conclusions and recommendations based on regulatory guidance, field experience, and training.
  • Prepare technical correspondence, project proposals, technical reports, work plans, and project specifications including cost estimates and budgets.
  • Research novel technical solutions to challenging environmental problems.
  • Plan, kickoff, and oversee implementation of technical field programs.
  • Demonstrate writing skills and Word proficiency. Specific writing skills include correct grammar, punctuation, and concise sentence structure, with an active voice.
  • Prepare entire reports independently for senior review, while directing others to provide document preparation support.
  • Prepare proposed scope of services that presents a complete list of proposed activities in a logical fashion to avoid client misunderstandings or exposure to liability independently.
  • Prepare appropriate cost estimates that include all costs to complete the proposed activities.
  • Prepare entire workplans independently for senior review.
  • Prepare portions of large proposal efforts to help Bay West win new work. Lead these proposal efforts with help from the team.
  • Manage multiple tasks simultaneously to maintain utilization goals and complete deliverables within promised timeframes.
  • Provide technical and corporate guidance - be a resource to answer questions.
  • Conduct environmental sampling and monitoring for various media and contaminants of concern by following established procedure.
  • Provides guidance and counsel to the site management team on applicable programs, practices, and existing/proposed local, state, and federal regulations
  • Ability to travel as needed
