About The Position

This position is responsible for the sourcing, acquisition, and administration of a high volume of purchase orders in a very fast-paced environment as a member of BIW’s Supply Chain organization. This position is built for highly motivated individuals who have the proven ability to rapidly and accurately perform their duties while maintaining their sense of humor in a demanding environment. The MRO team has the distinction of keeping the entire Shipyard “locked and loaded” with whatever tools and equipment their job requires. Operating under the BIW Business Operating System (BOS), the MRO buyer ensures compliance with safety, quality, and performance standards while maintaining strong relationships with key stakeholders.

Requirements

Ability to develop a command of complex contract terms in a short amount of time.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to translate technical decisions/strategies into business terms and implications.
Ability to produce clear documentation geared to varied audiences.
Ability to manage a high volume of work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven work environment.
Solid project management and organizational skills with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects.
Positive and energetic with strong cross-functional team experience.
Strong analytical problem-solving aptitude and financial acumen, including the ability to discuss and monitor associated budgets and expenditures.
An excellent sense of humor and a high tolerance for uncertainty in the midst of shifting priorities.

Responsibilities

Safety Leadership: Actively participate in safety initiatives and lead by example. Influence and motivate the team to prioritize safety, fostering a positive safety culture.
Project Execution Coordinate procurement and contracts activities with project managers, legal counsel, vendors, and key agency stakeholders to ensure projects are defined, documented, completed on time, on budget, and meet stakeholder requirements
Ensure compliance with procurement and contract standards and requirements and engage the appropriate support, as needed.
Conduct direct negotiations with vendors, monitor vendor performance and review vendor invoices to ensure accurate billing, with minimal oversight.
Manage and communicate issues and risks associated with assigned contracts to leadership.
Ensure all procurement artifacts, as well as fully executed contracts, are properly recorded and entered in agency databases, and securely maintained.
Manage leases for office, warehouse and parking lots; interact with landlords, property brokers and others to ensure compliance of obligations.
Training and Development: Be a continuous and active learner. Work to enhance current skills and take initiative to prepare yourself for future roles and career growth.
Team Collaboration and Communication: Assist and participate in cross departmental communications and information sharing to support organizational alignment. Create strong partnerships with internal and external stakeholders.
Continuous Improvement: Monitor and assess supplier performance and initiates corrective action when supplier performance does not meet contractual obligations or company expectations. Evaluate effectiveness of existing department strategies and make recommendations for improvement as needed.
