About The Position

Boyd Corporation is a leading provider of advanced manufacturing solutions serving the aerospace and defense markets. Our facility in Woburn, Massachusetts, specializes in complex metal components and assemblies where quality, precision, and delivery performance are critical. The Materials Manager is responsible for leading all materials-related activities to ensure the right materials are available at the right time, in the right quantity, and at the right cost to support production and business objectives. This role owns inventory control, materials planning, supplier coordination, and MRP system integrity, with a strong focus on implementing and sustaining Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI) programs and driving continuous improvement across the supply chain. This position plays a critical role in supporting on-time delivery, improving inventory turns, and enabling scalable growth.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, Engineering, or related field (preferred)
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in materials management, planning, or supply chain within a manufacturing environment
  • Strong working knowledge of MRP systems (critical)
  • Demonstrated experience with inventory control systems and VMI programs
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Proven ability to work cross-functionally and lead change

Responsibilities

  • Materials Planning & MRP
  • Own and manage the site MRP system to drive accurate demand planning, material releases, and production support
  • Ensure data integrity for BOMs, routings, lead times, safety stock, and planning parameters
  • Translate the master production schedule into executable material plans
  • Proactively identify and resolve material constraints and shortages
  • Inventory Control
  • Establish and maintain strong inventory control practices to optimize working capital while supporting production needs
  • Drive improvements in inventory accuracy, cycle counting, root cause analysis, and corrective actions
  • Monitor and improve inventory turns, excess and obsolete material, and overall material flow
  • Develop KPIs and reporting for inventory performance
  • Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI) & Supplier Coordination
  • Develop, implement, and manage VMI programs with key suppliers
  • Partner with Procurement and suppliers to improve service levels, lead times, and responsiveness
  • Monitor supplier performance related to delivery, quality, and inventory effectiveness
  • Support strategic sourcing and supplier development initiatives
  • Leadership & Continuous Improvement
  • Lead and develop the materials team (buyers, planners, coordinators, etc., as applicable)
  • Drive lean materials management practices and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Support cross-functional efforts with Operations, Quality, Engineering, and Finance
  • Participate in capacity planning and growth initiatives
