Location: Duke University Hospital | 2301 Erwin Rd, Durham, NC 27710 Work Schedule: Friday, Saturday, and Sunday (Weekend Days) Occupational Summary This leadership position manages and coordinates the strategic activities of the Inpatient Supply Chain functions during the critical weekend shift. The Manager is responsible for leading a large team to ensure that all inpatient units have the necessary medical supplies, linen, and equipment to provide uninterrupted patient care. This role requires a high degree of independence, as the manager serves as the primary Supply Chain leadership presence on-site during weekend operations. Work Performed Weekend Operations & Team Leadership Span of Control: Directly oversee and lead a large weekend team consisting of 40 Supply Chain Associates and 2 Team Leads. Operational Oversight: Manage the day-to-day inpatient supply functions, including par level replenishment, linen distribution, and centralized inventory support across all hospital floors. Resilient Leadership: Act as the primary escalation point for clinical staff (Nursing and Unit Leadership) during the weekend, resolving urgent supply issues with professionalism and a sense of urgency. Workload Management: Equitably apportion tasks among the 40 associates, utilizing metrics to ensure all inpatient service delivery standards are met during high-volume weekend periods. Process Quality & Compliance Service Excellence: Ensure that product quality and vendor service levels are maintained, addressing any shortages or delivery gaps immediately to prevent clinical delays. Safety & Auditing: Conduct regular inspections of inpatient supply rooms and storage areas to ensure compliance with Joint Commission standards and internal safety regulations. Staff Development: Responsible for the weekend team's performance management, including coaching, training, and providing corrective actions when necessary to maintain high productivity and low turnover.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, Healthcare, or a related field is preferred. (High School Diploma/GED required as minimum).
  • 5 years of experience in logistics, supply chain, or healthcare leadership/management.
  • At least 2 of those 5 years must be specifically in supply chain/logistics.
  • Experience with supply chain technology solutions (e.g., bar code scanners, automated supply cabinets).
  • Previous experience in JIT (Just in Time) and LUM (Logical Unit of Measure) distribution processes is required.
  • Valid State Driver's License required.
  • Proven ability to manage a large group of reports (40+) in a fast-paced, high-stakes healthcare environment.
  • Ability to work independently with little to no supervision, making high-level decisions to ensure seamless hospital operations.
  • Exceptional verbal skills to coordinate with 24/7 clinical service lines and maintain strong relationships with nursing leadership.
  • Experience with ERP systems (preferably SAP) and intermediate to advanced skills in MS Excel to track weekend productivity trends.
  • Ability to exert 20 to 50 lbs of force occasionally; pushing/pulling loaded supply carts requires up to 100 lbs of exertional force daily.
  • Frequent reaching, lifting, stooping, and bending are required to audit and manage stock.
