About The Position

The Supplier Technologist Director (E6) is a senior individual contributor responsible for defining and executing supplier technology strategy aligned with COE and Business Unit (BU) roadmaps. This role serves as a primary interface between Applied Materials and strategic suppliers, driving technology alignment, supplier collaboration, commercial decisions, and IP-aware engagements that support current and future High Value Problems (HVPs). The position requires strong technical judgment, strategic thinking, and influence across engineering, supply chain, legal, and executive stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Own and drive supplier technology roadmap creation and review, aligned to COE capability and BU product roadmaps.
  • Evaluate supplier technology readiness, scalability, production maturity, and risk across near- and long-term horizons.
  • Identify technology gaps, dependency risks, and alternative sourcing strategies; drive mitigation plans with cross-functional partners.
  • Act as the primary interface and/or technical lead for strategic supplier engagements.
  • Lead and participate in Technical Roadmap Meetings (TRMs) to align supplier capabilities, development plans, and milestones with COE and BU needs.
  • Drive joint technology development and alignment activities with suppliers from early concept through qualification.
  • Collaborate with COE peers, BU Engineering, Quality, and Operations to ensure supplier technologies are fit for development, scale, and production.
  • Serve as a recognized technical authority within assigned supplier or technology domains.
  • Partner with Supply Chain and Commercial teams to ensure technology decisions account for cost, total cost of ownership (TCO), scalability, manufacturing robustness, and production readiness.
  • Assess supplier capability for volume ramp, yield stability, supply assurance, and long-term capacity support.
  • Drive and support supplier agreements including JDAs, technology licenses, exclusivity arrangements, and strategic partnerships.
  • Provide technical leadership in IP definition, protection, and allocation, working closely with Legal to manage IP risk and freedom-to-operate considerations.
  • Support M&A, equity investment, or strategic partnership activities through technical diligence and supplier/technology assessment.
  • Translate technical and manufacturing complexity into clear inputs for commercial, legal, and executive decision-making.
