  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in supplier quality, manufacturing quality, or a closely related role.
  • Strong technical knowledge of FMEA, control plans, PPAP/APQP, root cause analysis, error-proofing, and lean manufacturing principles.

  • Demonstrated experience working directly with external suppliers to assess capability and drive quality improvements.
  • Comfortable working on the shop floor and engaging directly with manufacturing teams.
  • Demonstrates disciplined problem solving by asking why before proposing solutions.
  • Able to challenge suppliers respectfully and firmly while maintaining strong working relationships.
  • Leads through coaching and influence rather than command-and-control.
  • Values long-term process capability and prevention over short-term fixes.
  • Willing and able to stop production or shipment when necessary to protect manufacturing operations and the customer.

Nice To Haves

  • ASQ certifications (CQE, CQM / OE).
  • Structured problem-solving experience (A3/DMAIC/8D/PDCA), experience working with suppliers.

Responsibilities

  • Identify supplier capability gaps and coach suppliers to close gaps using lean manufacturing and continuous improvement principles.
  • Lead and review supplier corrective actions, ensuring root cause is identified and countermeasures prevent recurrence.
  • Challenge and reject ineffective countermeasures (e.g., retraining, reminders, added inspections) that do not address root cause.
  • Support new supplier onboarding, new part introductions, and engineering changes to ensure quality readiness.
  • Review and approve supplier FMEAs, PPAP submissions, and control plans; verify risk mitigation prior to mass production.
  • Ensure supplier changes are properly evaluated, communicated, standardized, and sustained.
  • Monitor supplier quality performance using data and trends to prioritize development efforts and identify systemic weaknesses.
  • Focus supplier performance management on leading indicators rather than reactive customer claims alone.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Purchasing, Engineering, Production, and Plant Quality to align supplier improvements with design intent and manufacturing needs.
  • Lead supplier quality issue containment and response to protect production and the customer.
  • Support stop-shipment actions, production holds, or escalations when supplier quality issues pose customer or business risk.
