The Supervisory Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist (MRI), position is assigned to the Medical Imaging Service, within the Jesse Brown VA Medical Center. The Supervisory DRT (MRI) serves as the primary supervisor for the MRI department. In the absence of other sectional supervisors, he/she will assume the responsibility of that appropriate section and ensures strict adherence to MRI Safety policies throughout the section. Coordinates with other services, sections and units to resolve problems or improve current procedures within the radiology department. Presents recommendations to the Program Director and/or Biomedical Engineering (BME) concerning the maintenance and replacement of equipment. Responsible for preparing formal requests for new equipment with complete justification to include quotes, staff, training and space. Inspects equipment and reports any deficiencies immediately. Ensures that various reports are prepared, and the Program Director is briefed on highlights and/or problems encountered or anticipated. Prepare plans to meet sudden increases or changes in the normal day-to-day workload, priorities, deadlines, etc. Coordinates with others within and outside of the service to affect changes, solve problems and similar situations. Prepares budget and cost estimates based on past precedents, anticipated workloads and overall capabilities of the section. Ensures that employees are assigned work compatible with their skill level and provides training to new employees who have a lack of experience and/or education to perform the work. Assigns various types of work including overtime to employees on an equitable and fair basis. Participates in the student educational experience within the department as directed. Provides oral or written special instructions on difficult or different operations and provides answers to technical questions concerning an assignment. Ensures that work is assigned to employees based on such factors as difficulty and requirements of the assignments/s, capabilities and qualifications of the employees and other resource considerations. Develops and implements written instructions and procedures and special instructions for non-routine or complex assignments to clarify existing guidelines. Ensures that employees are kept informed of management goals and objectives and keeps immediate supervisor informed of employees' participation and concerns. Reviews, approves, and disapproves leave in a timely manner. Makes the necessary adjustment to workload and staff in conjunction with leave requests. Responsible for ensuring that monthly, quarterly and annual reports are accurate and are submitted in timely manner. Maintains a section quality control program in accordance with medical center and regulatory policies. Reviews new developments in the field and recommends those which would improve the operation of the section. Reviews and evaluates activities within the sections to measure productivity, workflow, the extent of achievement of objectives and to evaluate the effectiveness of methods, techniques and procedures. Responsible for training, counseling, disciplining, evaluating and promoting the growth of employees within the sections. Completes required performance evaluations in a timely manner. Counsels employees on individual work problems, such as poor discipline, low morale, and excessive absenteeism and takes action to correct actual or potential employee problems. Informs employees of position classification, disciplinary procedures, and other personnel matters. Advises employees on rules of conduct and disciplinary procedures. Participates in setting performance standards of employees supervised. Performs other duties as assigned on a daily basis.
