About The Position

Barnes & Noble College is a retail partner for nearly 800 colleges and universities nationwide, offering a unique retail environment focused on educational content, tools, and merchandise on higher education campuses. Their teams interact directly with customers including students, faculty, administration, alumni, and the general public to provide outstanding customer service for selling or renting books, general merchandise, and various academic products and services. Barnes & Noble College is seeking a resourceful, driven, adaptable, and customer-focused part-time Supervisor to work varying or set schedules weekly, year-round. This role involves assisting the management team and overseeing team members within a specific department, satellite location, or store when upper management is absent, all while providing outstanding customer service to the academic and co-curricular community.

Requirements

  • Outstanding customer service skills to match customers to products that meet their needs.
  • Basic reading, writing and accounting skills.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Nice To Haves

  • 2+ years’ experience in a retail setting preferred.
  • High school diploma/GED preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Support the management team and act as Manager-on-Duty in their absence or at satellite locations.
  • Be a resource for all departments and maintain working knowledge of all store departments to provide daily support, direction, and guidance to customers and team members.
  • Model, coach, and deliver exceptional customer service on the sales floor.
  • Drive sales and be a skillful problem solver.
  • Help train and oversee daily work activity of team members in one or more departments or for specified operational functions.
  • Provide outstanding customer service to the academic and co-curricular community.
  • Help enforce loss prevention procedures.
  • Ensure area of responsibility is maintained, properly merchandised, and operationally sound.
  • Resolve customer issues and complaints, escalating problems to management when necessary.
  • Assist with assigning work and providing focused direction to team members to manage and accomplish multiple projects.
  • Process sales transactions involving cash, credit, or financial aid payments as needed.
  • Perform routine housekeeping tasks including dusting, mopping, window cleaning, vacuuming, and trash removal.
