About The Position

Barnes & Noble College is a retail partner for nearly 800 colleges and universities nationwide, offering a unique retail environment focused on delivering educational content, tools, and merchandise on campuses of higher education. Their teams interact directly with customers including students, faculty, administration, alumni, and the general public to provide outstanding customer service for selling or renting books, general merchandise, and various academic products and services. Barnes & Noble College is seeking a resourceful, driven, adaptable, and customer-focused team member for a part-time Supervisor role, working varying or set schedules on a weekly basis year-round. The Supervisor will assist the management team, oversee team members within a specific department, satellite location, or store in the absence of upper management, and provide outstanding customer service to the academic and co-curricular community.

Requirements

  • Candidates must be a minimum of 18 years of age to be considered for employment.
  • Outstanding customer service skills to match customers to products that meet their needs.
  • Basic reading, writing and accounting skills.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Nice To Haves

  • 2+ years’ experience in a retail setting preferred.
  • High school diploma/GED preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Spend the majority of time on the sales floor coaching and modeling exceptional customer service.
  • Help train and oversee the daily work activity of team members in one or more departments or for specified operational functions.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of all departments in the store to provide daily support, direction, and guidance to customers and team members.
  • Provide outstanding customer service to the academic and co-curricular community.
  • Help resolve customer issues and complaints, escalating problems to the management team when necessary.
  • Assist in the daily operation of the store in partnership with the management team and act as the Manager-on-Duty in the absence of the manager or at satellite locations.
  • Assist with assigning work and providing focused direction to team members to manage and accomplish multiple projects.
  • Assist with processing sales transactions involving cash, credit, or financial aid payments as needed.
  • Help enforce loss prevention procedures.
  • Ensure that your area of responsibility is maintained, properly merchandised, and the store is operationally sound.
  • Perform routine housekeeping including, for example, dusting, mopping, window cleaning, vacuuming, and trash removal.
