Headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana, Wabash Valley Power is a not-for-profit electric cooperative and wholesale provider of reliable, affordable electricity to our 21 electric distribution member cooperatives. The purpose of this position is to direct personnel responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing field Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) equipment; testing substation equipment; and installing, maintaining, and repairing metering and power quality monitoring devices for Wabash Valley Power and their Member systems. The substation equipment includes, but is not limited to, switches, insulators, transformers, regulators, circuit breakers, lightning arresters, capacitors, PTs, CTs, relays, and ancillary equipment such as sump pumps, equipment nitrogen systems, station lighting, heating, air conditioning, receptacles. and DC control systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electronic Engineering, Engineering Technology or Computer Technology related field.
  • At least eight years experience in work relating to SCADA maintenance, troubleshooting, and testing or equivalent combination of formal education/training and experience.
  • Understanding of mechanical concepts and good mechanical skills.
  • Ability to comprehend and apply technical documentation, including but not limited to, substation instructions, electrical one-line diagrams, schematic and wiring diagrams, technical manuals, instruction books, construction drawings, electrical schematics, and LOTO.
  • Knowledge of Substation and Transmission safety and standard work procedures required.
  • Knowledgeable in MS Office.
  • Dependable and reliable, and able to work as a member of a team.
  • Self-motivated with ability to make decisions.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to meet Company driving standards, including a valid driver’s license.
  • Will be required to pass all required Safety/Compliance courses related to substation entry, LOTO, etc.

Nice To Haves

  • Five or more years of field experience in work relating to transmission and substation operation & maintenance or equivalent combination of formal education/training and experience.
  • Previous electric utility substation experience is highly desirable.
  • Previous experience with Remote Terminal Units (RTU’s), Intelligent Electronic Devices (IED’s), and/or radio communications equipment as well as EMS/SCADA System maintenance preferred.
  • Previous experience with electrical metering and power quality equipment preferred.
  • Operational understanding of computer technology and networking required.
  • Computer program application skills are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Primary ownership and accountability for the performance of Wabash Valley Power owned SCADA, Metering, and power quality equipment
  • Lead accountability for testing of Wabash Valley Power and Member owned Transmission and Substation system equipment
  • Ensures effective and timely predictive, preventive and corrective maintenance is performed. Continuously re-prioritizes the backlog of maintenance tasks and monitors equipment health
  • Answer questions related to power quality, equipment communications and power factor for Member Systems.
  • Ensures Member requirements per the executed Substation Services Agreements are fulfilled and all required reports and invoices for services performed are provided to the Member in a timely manner
  • Facilitate the preparation of business analysis for repair, replace, and retrofit decisions or equipment
  • Prioritizes emergency and emergent work
  • Responsible for system data collection, analysis, and trending
  • Provides technical support to of Asset Maintenance Engineers, Field Engineers, Meter Techs, field crews, design engineers, Member personnel, etc.
  • Develops spare parts requirements for installed SCADA and Meter assets and assists Procurement with spare parts planning
  • Assists Engineering with the development and maintenance of equipment specifications and design & construction standards
  • Manage overall workload and priorities of Asset Maintenance Engineers, Field Engineers, and Meter Techs
  • Research and specify required monitoring and diagnostic tools
  • Maintains system inspection, maintenance, and testing information in IFS
