About The Position

Responsibilities include supervising and maintaining all components of the Radiology Information System (RIS) and Picture Archive Computer System (PACS). Working with and reporting to PACS manager to organize installations/up-grades, perform training sessions for all users of the RIS/PACS and other related systems and assist providing statistical reports, QA and systems analysis to Radiology and Hospital Administration.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, Healthcare Informatics, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in Information Systems Administration or equivalent.
  • Proficiency in application-level support for RIS/PACS systems.
  • Working knowledge of healthcare interoperability standards (e.g., HL7) and workflow engines (e.g., interface engines such as Talkserver).
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Proficiency in electronic medical record (EMR) systems and healthcare IT applications relevant to radiology operations.
  • Position requires prolonged periods of standing, reaching, walking throughout the working day.
  • Position will be required to stoop, bend, lift, and carry items weighing up to 25 pounds.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in PACS administration or imaging informatics preferred.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., CIIP – Certified Imaging Informatics Professional) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and maintain the daily functionality of RIS, PACS, and associated imaging informatics systems, including connectivity platforms.
  • Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and coordinate corrective actions to minimize downtime.
  • Maintain comprehensive records of system performance, preventive maintenance, and repair activities.
  • Ensure accurate management of image transfers from ancillary systems into PACS.
  • Monitor and manage unread imaging studies to support timely interpretation and reporting workflows.
  • Track and report examination and dictation status to Radiology leadership.
  • Generate and analyze statistical reports to support operational, clinical, and administrative decision-making.
  • Support system-level data integrity and workflow optimization initiatives.
  • Ensure completion and documentation of QA testing for all PACS diagnostic monitors in accordance with regulatory standards.
  • Oversee and maintain radiation dose monitoring systems (e.g., Nexodose) and ensure compliance with institutional and regulatory requirements.
  • Initiate, monitor, document, and actively participate in departmental quality assurance programs.
  • Ensure all RIS/PACS operations comply with HIPAA regulations to safeguard patient privacy and confidentiality.
  • Promote patient safety initiatives and ensure adherence to organizational safety standards.
  • Coordinate and deliver initial and ongoing training for Radiology staff, referring providers and ancillary users on RIS/PACS systems and associated applications.
  • Provide user support, including data query tools and web-based PACS access.
  • Assist in onboarding and training new staff in imaging informatics systems.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies, software enhancements, and system upgrades.
  • Lead or support implementation of system upgrades and workflow improvements.
  • Conduct systems analysis to identify opportunities for efficiency and performance enhancement.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the PACS Manager or Radiology leadership.
