The Physical Therapy Supervisor is responsible for direct supervision of staff therapists, therapist assistants, and support personnel. As a member of an interdisciplinary rehabilitation team, the incumbent is responsible for physical therapy evaluation, treatment planning, treatment implementation, documentation, and patient/family education. Other responsibilities include orientation and on the job training of staff; development, monitoring and modification of programs; and other professional and administrative duties as assigned. The individual also participates in department/facility initiatives as assigned. Additionally, the Supervisor is responsible for practicing with integrity and autonomy in accordance with practice act/standards, code of ethics and regulatory bodies and is responsible for identifying and effectively addressing situations outside of these guidelines.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an APTA accredited Physical Therapy education program or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated ability and interest in supervision and management.
  • Physical Therapist License.

  • Minimum of 3 years of clinical experience.

Responsibilities

  • Collects and records patient care data that follows format and guidelines of the patient care service, regulatory agencies and third party payers which reflects an understanding of reimbursement systems and their impact on patient care. This includes, but is not limited to, examination, evaluation, daily notes, reassessments/progress reports, discharge plans and communication with members of the team. Additionally records daily billing and follows department
  • Prepares for the evaluation in accordance with department policies/procedures and standards of practice, including obtaining patient history, exhibiting knowledge of patient diagnoses and researching unfamiliar diagnoses. Selects and administers tests and measures. Additionally, synthesizes evaluation results to formulate the diagnosis, goals, prognosis and plan of care.
  • Establishes a treatment plan based on evaluation results, goals and best practice. Collaborates with an interdisciplinary team, patients and patient's support system. Assesses and re-assesses need for modifications to plan of care and goals. Identifies need for consultations and/or refers the patient to other health care professional or health care services. Initiates and completes discharge plan. Provides education/training to patients and/or patient's support system.
  • Ensures clinical staff competence by providing orientation to roles and responsibilities and ongoing formal and informal supervision of clinical care and compliance with department and facility policies, procedures and guidelines; documenting through notes to file, annual performance appraisal and PRs and EINs if necessary. Based on supervision, observation, chart review and changes in the field develops and implements individual and departmental education plans. Prioritizes patient needs for quality personalized care through involvement in scheduling and coverage assignments. Ensures cost effective use of supplies and equipment. Evaluates the need for new supplies and equipment and makes recommendations for purchase, Participates in PI and program development. Leads initiatives/projects within the department ensuring timely execution. Demonstrates knowledge of regulatory and insurance company requirements.
  • Functional Training: This may include but is not limited to gait training and/or locomotion training; therapeutic activities (eg. bed mobility, transfers); community re-integration, ADLs/IADLS; work injury management; equipment prescription.
  • Musculoskeletal Interventions: This may include but is not limited to, therapeutic exercise; manual therapy; joint mobilizations;
  • Neurological Interventions: This may include but is not limited to, handling techniques; neuro-developmental training; neuromuscular re-education; cognitive rehab; behavioral management; spasticity management; vestibular therapy.
  • Other: This may include, but is not limited to airway clearance techniques; integumentary repair/protective techniques; cardiac rehab/medical monitoring.
  • Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
