About The Position

This job is responsible for providing both administrative and technical oversight of the day to day operations of out patient phlebotomy collections, specimen processing within the clinical lab and courier services to and from the Dallas laboratory. Actively promotes a Lean work culture by performing Group Leader duties to ensure consistent use of Lean principles. Ensures development of and adherence to standard work and continual process improvement.

Requirements

  • At least 2 years Related experience Required
  • At least 3 years Experience in discipline Required
  • Four-year Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience In Medical Technology or science discipline, consistent with Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) requirements Pref

Nice To Haves

  • At least 2 years Experience in leadership / management Preferred
  • Customer service experience Preferred

Responsibilities

  • Lead, assign and coordinate work performed by direct reports; evaluate work for acceptability and compliance with regulatory, safety, quality and productivity standards
  • Ensure appropriate staffing matrix to provide high quality specimen collection and handling and meet productivity standards
  • Take ownership of performance and PEAC process by understanding lab goals and objectives and aligning individual activities with hospital and lab goals and objectives
  • Assist manager and supervisor in developing section goals aligned with division and hospital goals and objectives
  • Assist manager in recruiting, interviewing and selection of staff and recommend staffing and personnel changes as needed
  • Collaborate with employees to help them achieve the highest level of performance possible based on the employees' desire and abilities; in coordination with the employee and the Manager, perform quarterly and yearly personnel evaluations and ensure ongoing competency assessment
  • Perform daily oversight of Lean work environment while ensuring adherence to Lean principles and processes. Perform standard work and metric reviews, audits, and gemba walks. Provide consultation as required at daily stand-up meetings within the lab and phlebotomy areas
  • Gather information regarding incidents, complaints and other situations and assist manager/ lab supervisor in investigation and resolution using tools to seek solutions and improvements rather than blame
  • Write and review policies and procedures
  • Round with clinic managers and other lab uses to maintain positive relationships and ensure ongoing process improvement.
  • Using an awareness of how the work performed is valued by the customer, perform duties, make decisions, take actions and continually strive to improve work processes
  • Responsible for ensuring entry or verification of accurate information in payroll computer system
  • Ensures all staff efforts are directed at achieving the goals of the department and actively work to remove barriers to that end.
  • Promote teamwork and cooperation through non-anxious, consistently helpful, courteous, and positive interactions with colleagues
  • Promote a trusting and secure work environment through supportive, dependable interactions
  • Read and adhere to all laboratory policies and procedures pertaining to section and document understanding of such
  • Share knowledge and provide instruction and mentorship to new employees, students, lab support specailist, phlebotomist and other staff; pursue continuing education; perform other duties and special projects as requested
