Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Certification as a Phlebotomist (CPT) or equivalent credential.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in phlebotomy, with 1 year in a supervisory or leadership role preferred.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in phlebotomy techniques, specimen handling, and laboratory operations.
  • Knowledge of relevant regulations and industry standards.
  • While the role may not require constant mobility, supervisors should be able to move around the laboratory or clinical setting as needed to oversee phlebotomy operations, interact with staff, and address any issues.
  • Adequate hand-eye coordination is important for handling paperwork, laboratory equipment, and supervisory tasks that may involve administrative work.
  • Good vision is essential for reading and analyzing reports, reviewing documentation, and overseeing quality control measures.
  • Effective communication with staff and other healthcare professionals requires adequate hearing.
  • Supervisors may need to handle paperwork, input data into computer systems, and perform administrative tasks that require manual dexterity.
  • While not a primary responsibility, occasional lifting of paperwork, laboratory supplies, or other materials may be necessary.
  • Supervisors should be capable of bending or reaching to access documents, equipment, or supplies as needed.
  • The ability to sit for extended periods during administrative tasks and stand or move as needed during laboratory supervision is important.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the daily operations of the phlebotomy department, including scheduling, training, and performance evaluation of phlebotomists.
  • Provide guidance and support to the phlebotomy team to ensure efficient specimen collection and a positive patient experience.
  • Monitor and maintain the quality and accuracy of specimen collection procedures.
  • Conduct regular audits to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  • Develop and implement phlebotomy training programs for new and existing staff.
  • Keep the team updated on best practices, safety protocols, and the latest phlebotomy techniques.
  • Manage inventory of phlebotomy supplies and equipment, ensuring an adequate stock for daily operations.
  • Collaborate with procurement to order necessary supplies.
  • Ensure strict adherence to safety protocols and infection control measures in all phlebotomy activities.
  • Stay current with industry regulations and standards.
  • Maintain accurate records of phlebotomy activities, including specimen collection, labeling, and transportation.
  • Prepare and submit reports as required.
  • Address and resolve any issues or concerns related to phlebotomy procedures or patient care.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure seamless specimen processing.
  • Fill in for Phlebotomists/Specimen Collectors as needed.
  • Successfully participates in and supports the Tribal Diagnostics compliance program and initiatives
  • All other duties as assigned.
