About The Position

At United, the Airport Operations team ensures smooth daily operations across airports worldwide, from check-in to departure gates and baggage handling. The Supervisor – Operations Control plays a crucial role in this, providing primary management control oversight of daily schedule integrity and flight process activities. This role ensures local station requirements are met and United’s core4 principles are upheld. Supervisors must be able to function interchangeably as planners overseeing the hub gating plan and as flight process overseers/problem solvers within a specific zone of approximately 10-20 gates. They monitor flight activities, including pre-arrival, arrival, ground-servicing, and departure, identifying and resolving exceptions and process failures. The role requires maintaining thorough situational awareness of events impacting gating and parking plans, making tactical decisions, and escalating significant operational challenges. Consistent, proactive communication with all stakeholders and external agencies is essential, as is ensuring accurate flight following (FLIFO) information and supporting the station safety culture.

Requirements

  • Associate degree or 2 years of relevant work experience
  • 2+ years of operational experience
  • Proven track record for decisive action backed by strategic planning, continuous improvement, analytical thinking, goal-directed leadership and service-oriented performance
  • Ability to work in harmony with other team members across the organization to create a collaborative work environment
  • Able to consistently manage both controlled and uncontrolled environments while making informed strategic and tactical decisions
  • Organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship
  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualifications
  • Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary management control oversight of daily schedule integrity and flight process activities
  • Ensure local station requirements are met and United’s core4 principles are upheld
  • Function interchangeably as planners overseeing the hub gating plan and as flight process overseers / problem solvers within a given area of responsibility (a zone of approximately 10-20 gates)
  • Monitor flight activities within zone (including pre-arrival, arrival, ground-servicing, and departure activities) for exceptions and process failures with a given area of responsibility and engage with other team members as needed to resolve operational challenges
  • Maintain thorough situational awareness about any events that may impact gating and parking plans
  • Make tactical decisions as needed and escalate significant operational challenges
  • Provide consistent, ongoing, and pro-active communication and operational updates with all stakeholders and external agencies supporting the operation
  • Work with all stakeholders to ensure accurate flight following (FLIFO) information is maintained
  • Responsible for supporting the station safety culture through strategic communication and engagement
  • Document notable issues with operational performance as required
