At United, the Airport Operations team ensures smooth daily operations across airports worldwide, from check-in to departure gates and baggage handling. The Supervisor – Operations Control plays a crucial role in this, providing primary management control oversight of daily schedule integrity and flight process activities. This role ensures local station requirements are met and United’s core4 principles are upheld. Supervisors must be able to function interchangeably as planners overseeing the hub gating plan and as flight process overseers/problem solvers within a specific zone of approximately 10-20 gates. They monitor flight activities, including pre-arrival, arrival, ground-servicing, and departure, identifying and resolving exceptions and process failures. The role requires maintaining thorough situational awareness of events impacting gating and parking plans, making tactical decisions, and escalating significant operational challenges. Consistent, proactive communication with all stakeholders and external agencies is essential, as is ensuring accurate flight following (FLIFO) information and supporting the station safety culture.
