About The Position

The Supervisor, RUO Sample Processing is responsible for daily supervision of lab staff performing sample processing activities. Lab activities primarily consist of DNA extractions, library preparation, and next generation sequencing workflows. The supervisor works primarily with the Oncology RUO team, a multidisciplinary team within the research and development department.

Requirements

  • BS/BA in a biological science or equivalent required
  • 2-3 years of related experience
  • Extremely familiar with good pipetting practices (single and multi-channel micropipettes, serological pipettes)
  • Experience with laboratory automation (Hamilton, Tecan, Biomek, Qiasymphony)
  • Hands-on experience with library preparation and next generation sequencing platforms
  • Hands-on experience with nucleic acid techniques (isolation, purification, sonication, quantification, amplification, hybridization capture, etc.)
  • Able to recognize lab issues and team concerns, communicate to manager and suggest improvements
  • Knowledge of LIMS/database software
  • Excellent with Microsoft Office and Google Drive programs
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to think creatively and analytically with strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Team player with demonstrated strong interpersonal skills with an ability to build effective working relationships within functional area
  • Ability to thrive in a fast paced, evolving environment, and manage competing priorities efficiently

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily scheduling of employees performing DNA extractions, library preparation, nucleic acid QC, and next generation sequencing
  • Assist team members with day-to-day lab work
  • Point of contact for subordinates seeking guidance on data interpretation, appropriate next steps, and/or troubleshooting
  • Participate in process development and method/instrument testing.
  • Escalate lab process deviations to managers in a timely manner and document via nonconformance report as needed
  • Meet regularly with individual team members to discuss goals and career development
  • Maintain accurate records of lab work using a variety of software including Google Sheets, Microsoft Excel, and internal databases
  • Generate or periodically review standard operating procedures (SOP) and other work instructions
  • Routinely interact with Oncology RUO peer groups to ensure samples are processed efficiently
  • Present summary data of team activities related to specific projects and predetermined timelines
  • Ensure accurate, ethical, and appropriate management of samples in compliance with all applicable federal regulations
  • Perform other tasks as specified by the manager/director
  • This role occasionally works with PHI both in paper and electronic form and has access to various technologies to access PHI (paper and electronic) in order to perform the job
  • Employees must complete training relating to HIPAA/PHI privacy, General Policies and Procedure Compliance training and security training as soon as possible but not later than the first 30 days of hire
  • Must maintain a current status on Natera training requirements
  • Employee must pass post offer criminal background check
