About The Position

Highly skilled leader to assist the Director of Student Services with the district-wide administration, implementation and evaluation of specialized programs within the Hampden-Wilbraham Regional School District. JOB ENVIRONMENT:This position entails minimum of 8 hours a day working. Travel between schools and within the state and, at times, out of state. Some night meetings will be required.

Responsibilities

Serves as the primary administrative contact and case manager for students who are enrolled in HWRSD and who participate in a substantially separate program PK-22.
Supervises the development, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of the district's specialized (substantially separate) programs.
Assists in the development, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of systems which ensure the effective application of all federal, state and local mandates related to special education, accessibility, and related services.
Assists with the development of a common district-wide vision, core beliefs, and guiding procedures related to special education, accessibility, and related services.
Assists in the compilation of data and record keeping required by state and local agencies regarding Special Education, Early Childhood, Civil Rights, including but not limited to, Integrated Monitoring Review.
Assists in the coordination, completion, implementation, monitoring and review of the development of IEPs and ensures procedural safeguards are followed for the students they supervise.
Assists in the planning, hiring, implementation and supervision of extended year services.
In collaboration with Director of Student Services and/or Principals provides for the ongoing supervision and evaluations of programs and special education faculty and staff, including related service providers.
Assists in the recruiting, screening, hiring, assigning and evaluating of special education faculty and staff.
Participates in local, regional, and statewide required meetings as needed.
Assists the Director in liaison responsibilities to agencies such as Departments of Early Education and Care (EEC) and Elementary and Secondary Education (ESE), Department of Mental Health (DMH), Department of Developmental Services (DDS), and Mass Ability (formally MRC).
Assists in community-based family engagement activities.
Assists in the preparation of special education and related services budget.
Implements and coordinates the communication of procedures and regulations related to special education, and ADA/504 to administrators, faculty, and staff.
Provides regular consultation and support to principals and special education faculty and staff regarding academic, social, emotional, and behavioral support for students.
Collaborates with school and district staff to problem solve for students who are in crisis/dysregulated.
Works with administration, faculty, families, and outside providers regarding students who are hospitalized.
Participates in building-based meetings, which address the mental health concerns for students, and consult regularly with district-wide staff as needed.
Facilitates the development, implementation, supervision and evaluation of in-district special education programs to keep as many students as possible within the school district. Works with principals regarding referrals to in-district programs.
Assists in the identification, development, implementation and evaluation of professional development programs for professional and paraprofessional staff.
Responsible for training and supervision of assessment and teaching practices for faculty and staff as needed. Assists with a team responsible for implementing progress monitoring/data collection systems for students receiving pre-referral and special education services.
Member of District Leadership Team and participant in regular meetings.
Works with the Special Education Parent Advisory Council (SEPAC) regarding programs and services, and participates in PAC activities as appropriate.
Represents the Director of Student Services when they are not available.
