ELIZABETH BOARD OF EDUCATION Elizabeth, New Jersey JOB DESCRIPTION S upervisor of S pecial Services Qualifications: Valid Supervisor's certificate or certificate of eligibility. Minimum of five (5) years experience in the area ofpublic school education, with related experiences in teaching. Administration and communication skills. Required criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status. Reports to: Director of Special Services Supervises: Teachers Child Study Team Members Performance Responsibilities: Provide direct supervision of grades Pre-kindergarten through grade 12 Special Education programs and Child Study Teams (CST) through regular school visits, and offer positive suggestions relative to more effective approaches in individualized, small-group and homogeneous instruction. Assist Principals and Vice-Principals relative to providing assistance to teachers in the development, evaluation and improvement of teaching techniques. 3. Evaluate staff members, as assigned by the Director of Special Services. Participate in staff recommendations, including non-renewals, appointments, transfers, or discipline. Assist in the development of Special Education classes. Participate in the process of recruitment, selection, appointment and orientation of new Special Education teachers, and CST staff. Maintain regular contact with outside agencies interested in Special Education techniques and problems. Analyze and interpret pre- and post-test data in conjunction with appropriate principals and supervisors. Analyze and interpret all CST reports for compliance with Federal and State regulations. 10. Conduct ongoing evaluation of the Special Education programs for grades Pre-Kindergarten to 12. Maintain copies of all necessary records and forms related to the Special Education programs and CST operations. 12. Assign students to programs in-district and supervise placem ent of students in out-of-district programs in compliance with Federal and State Supervise and direct the professional growth of appropriate staff members through regularly scheduled staff meetings and workshops and through individual and group conferences. 14. Assist principals, appropriate supervisors and teachers in the procurement, distribution and use of all instructional materials, supplies, equipment and software pertaining to Special Education Supervise and direct learning community teams in the development of integrated cunicula as instructed by the Director of Special Services. Maintain an inventory of all instructional materials, supplies, equipment and software pertaining to Special Education instruction. Work with the Director of Elementary and Secondary Education in the development and improvement of district cunicula related to Special Education. Maintain statistical information regarding student drug and alcohol abuse. Prepare reports as requested by the Director of Special Services. Perform other related duties as may be assigned by the Director of Special Services. Terms ofEmployment: Twelve (12) months; tenurable Evaluated by the Director of Special Services, consistent with statute, code and collective negotiations agreement.
