Position Overview The Supervisor of Hospital Services oversees the daily activities of the Hospital Services department and assists the Director of Manufacturing Systems and Hospital Services. Responsibilities include providing administrative support, training, technical guidance, and supervision to the Hospital Services staff. The Supervisor of Hospital Services will also assist the Manager of Manufacturing Systems ensuring the safe and effective manufacturing of blood and blood components in accordance with AABB and FDA guidelines and per TBC policy. Good customer services skills and teamwork are required for this position. This position requires an increased level of experience in manufacturing systems to assist in training and mentoring current and future staff. The Supervisor of Hospital Services will assist in developing procedures, validations, and policies as needed.

Requirements

High School Diploma or GED with six years’ experience in:
Biologics processing or laboratory setting
Work experience in a regulated environment (FDA, AABB, CLIA) strongly preferred
Blood bank setting
Valid Driver’s License with no major infractions and dependable transportation
Ability to communicate effectively, tactfully, and courteously to patrons, donors, sponsors, and co-workers
Ability to organize and prioritize workload and meet deadlines
Excellent analytical, organizational, interpersonal, verbal, and written communications skills
Strong computer skills including intermediate skill level with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Ability to work with all levels and in a diverse work environment
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, management, and peers
Ability to exercise discretion on sensitive and confidential matters

Nice To Haves

Associates Degree MLT, BSMT (ASCP), or BS/BA in Biological Science strongly preferred
Work experience in a regulated environment (FDA, AABB, CLIA) strongly preferred

Responsibilities

Understands and supports the quality goals of the company
Adheres to the organization’s Quality Plan and Quality Essential Process Description
Supervises, coaches, and trains Hospital Services staff
Assists in supervising, coaching, and training of component staff
Provides input regarding staff performance and evaluations
Directs workflow of Hospital Services department and assures communication between shifts
Assures completion of duties by staff members
Assists in developing and overseeing the implementation of polices, process descriptions, standard operating procedures, training plans, and validation protocols
Assists in reviewing records
Assists in maintaining appropriate levels of supplies and materials needed for hospital services and component manufacturing departments
Participates in hiring qualified personnel
Evaluates personnel performance in terms of job accountabilities, objective measures, and pre-defined standards
Coaches, counsels, and disciplines personnel as required
Orients new staff to department and job specific knowledge
Trains staff to meet individual needs, regulatory and accreditation requirements, and the changing needs of the company
Retrains as necessary
Performs manufacturing of blood products from units of whole blood in a safe and timely manner
Performs leukoreduction of red blood cells
Completes computer entry of all manufactured products as indicated
Performs daily, monthly, quarterly, and other quality control as indicated
Performs maintenance procedures as indicated by equipment manufacturer’s recommendations
Performs product labeling
Aids in training of staff in the Hospital Services department
Performs modification procedures of blood products as needed (irradiation, washing, freezing, etc.)
Performs QC/maintenance for all equipment used in the Hospital Services department
Ensures that all orders are filled and delivered in a timely manner
Performs all procedures for the shipping and receiving of blood components
Assists in inventory management and stock rotation of blood and blood components
Provides support to hospital blood banks served by The Blood Connection
Performs bacterial detection testing on platelet apheresis products
Performs automated cell counts on donor/patient samples
Performs automated PLT counts on apheresis PLT products for yield determination
Ensures procedures and forms are uniform and adhere to the organization’s document control directives
Complies with the organization’s document control directive in terms of uniformity of design and layout; document approval and use; avoidance of antiquated documents; archiving of replaced documents; and document storage, retention, and retrieval
Ensures records are generated according to instructions in related procedures, and those applicable regulatory requirements and accreditation standards are met in terms of record review, retention, and storage
Practices good customer service relations with co-workers, clients, and the general public
Produces accurate, precise, and legible documentation
Maintains a clean and orderly work area
