Under the general direction of the Director of Clinical Social Services, the Supervisor of Group Counseling, Behavioral Health, oversees the daily clinical and administrative operations of the Group Counseling team. This role is responsible for coordinating patient caseload distribution, monitoring treatment service quality, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality psychosocial assessments and group counseling. The Supervisor provides guidance and feedback to the counseling staff and collaborates with the Director on training, professional development, performance reviews, scheduling, and payroll. This position adheres to all departmental and hospital-wide procedures to ensure regulatory compliance and optimize the quality of patient care. The Supervisor may also serve as a Senior Group Counselor as needed.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology or related field.
  • Minimum 3 years relevant work experience in a healthcare setting with leadership responsibilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient computer skills that may include but are not limited to Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms.
  • Licensed Professional Counselor or Licensed Clinical Social Worker.

Responsibilities

  • Provides daily clinical supervision and guidance to the Group Counseling team, including Group Counselors and Senior Group Counselors.
  • Fosters professional growth by providing ongoing feedback, identifying development opportunities, and collaborating with the Director on annual performance reviews.
  • Coordinates the daily distribution of patient caseloads to ensure equitable assignments and continuity of care.
  • Manages team staffing by creating and maintaining daily, weekly, and monthly schedules to ensure continuous unit coverage, accounting for PTO and other absences.
  • Monitors and audits the quality of treatment services and clinical documentation (e.g., psychosocial assessments, progress notes, master treatment plans) to ensure compliance with all departmental, hospital, and regulatory standards.
  • Ensures group counseling services are tailored to the specific needs of the patient population (i.e., age, culture, language), adapting communication for patients, parents, and/or caregivers.
  • Assists the Director with key administrative functions for the Group Counseling team, including payroll processing and timekeeping.
  • Mitigates interpersonal and operational disputes within the team, elevating issues to the Director as appropriate.
  • Maintains a comprehensive working knowledge of all group counselor workflows and clinical responsibilities to provide effective oversight and support.
  • Serves as a Senior Group Counselor to provide direct patient care and group counseling services as needed to cover staff shortages or vacancies.
  • Presents in departmental meetings, unit meetings, problem-solving teams, in-services, and other meetings as called by supervisory staff.
  • Maintains current knowledge of developments in the field through continuing education, conferences, and in-service programs.
  • Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
