The position focuses on building high performing teams of engineers, and the team’s interactions with production supervisors, lease operators, and contract personnel.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of progressive upstream oil & gas experience in production operations and/or production engineering, with at least 2–3 years in supervisory/lead role managing technical/field teams.
  • Strong technical knowledge of upstream systems: artificial lift methods, facility operations, well performance analysis, production optimization, and field maintenance/troubleshooting.
  • Proven leadership in multi site environments, including supervising production supervisors, lease operators, engineers, and contractors.
  • Demonstrated safety leadership, regulatory compliance, and commitment to incident free operations.
  • Analytical proficiency: Interpret production data, decline curves, pressure trends, and economics to drive improvements.
  • Excellent communication/influencing skills to align field/office teams and build trust.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel frequently to remote Rockies locations.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in referenced basins.
  • Hands on expertise with SCADA/automation, real time surveillance, chemical programs, nodal analysis, and multiple artificial lift systems.
  • Prior involvement in asset acquisitions, integration, or new developments.
  • Bachelor’s degree in petroleum, Mechanical, Chemical Engineering, or related (advanced degree/P.E. license a plus).
  • Familiarity with project economics, ROI prioritization, and program accountability (e.g., chemical, compression fleet).

Responsibilities

  • Model Flywheel’s core behaviors in all interactions; act as a strong team player who is driven, humble, and people smart; promote positive behaviors, eliminate negative ones, and foster a collaborative, high accountability environment.
  • Lead team performance through monthly one on one meetings, quarterly evaluations, and ongoing coaching; document clear roles, responsibilities, and expectations for direct reports, linking them to business impact; identify skill gaps and provide training, mentoring, and development opportunities to build capability and engagement.
  • Ensure team initiatives align with company priorities and adjust as needed based on real world conditions; define and track meaningful KPIs to measure team success and progress.
  • Provide engineering guidance for daily production activities; oversee optimization of artificial lift systems (e.g., rod pump, ESP, gas lift), facility performance, well analysis, and mitigation of restrictions to maximize uptime, recovery, and efficiency; analyze production data, downtime, pressures, and expenses to develop and execute improvement plans.
  • Prioritize and manage CAPEX projects based on value and return on investment; track execution to meet milestones, control scope, schedule and budget. Manage operations programs such as chemical, artificial lift, environmental, and workover.
  • Work closely with cross functional teams to execute strategies and improve communication between engineering and field operations; champion full compliance with health, safety, environmental, and regulatory standards; lead incident investigations, root cause analyses, audits, and reporting.
  • Maintain strong relationships with landowners, regulators, service providers, and local communities; support integration of new assets or acquisitions to align with Flywheel standards.
