About The Position

Sentara Obici Hospital is hiring a Supervisor, Nursing and Patient Care services to join our medical surgical team! This is a full time, second shift role in Suffolk, VA. Hours/Days : 5PM to 3AM Monday to Thursday on Week 1, 5PM to 3AM Tuesday to Friday Week 2. Areas this role will support: The Medical-Surgical Unit at Sentara Obici Hospital is a great place to learn and grow, supported by a longstanding leadership team and strong preceptors dedicated to mentoring new nurses. With a 21-bed capacity, an RN-to-patient ratio of 1:5 or 6, and PCTs assisting with an average of 10 or 11 patients, the unit offers a collaborative, supportive environment ideal for both new graduates and experienced nurses seeking to enhance their skillset. 1 East Surgery Unit is a 24-bed unit specializing in orthopedics, spine, and bariatrics , designed to provide high-quality, short-stay care. The team also sees high acuity surgical patients from Endoscopy, General surgery and GI. Average patient stay is 1 to 2 days. The RN staff can expect a 1:5 or 1:6 ratio and can expect an average of 6 to 8 patient discharges per shift. It is a well-staffed, fast-paced environment that values ongoing staff development through a comprehensive orientation program, where managers and educators meet biweekly to refine learning strategies and enhance clinical skills. This position serves as the primary liaison between departments, providing leadership, direction, and support to nursing staff, physicians, and other healthcare providers. The Supervisor is also tasked with coordinating patient flow, managing staffing levels, responding to emergencies, and addressing any operational issues that may arise throughout their shift. Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science Nursing- BSN (required) Or MSN (Preferred)
  • Registered nursing License (Required)
  • BLS required within 90 days of hire
  • 1 year of previous management experience OR 2 years' experience in a support leadership RN position, (Required)
  • 3 years of nursing experience (Required)

Nice To Haves

  • Professional Specialty Nursing Certification preferred.
  • 5+ years of nursing experience preferred
  • Medical Surgical or Oncology background preferred
