About The Position

Summary Supervises the daily activities of the department: production schedule, personnel schedules, process improvement and Quality Control. Maintains quality and controls costs. Makes recommendations for reagent systems, capital equipment and oversees inventory control system. Supervises personnel and makes recommendations for employment. Maintains adherence to policies and procedures. Coordinates training and teaching activities of the department and performs miscellaneous duties as assigned. Safety Adheres to infection control, safety, fire and disaster policies and procedures Adheres to all PPE procedures Routinely performs supply checks and rotates inventory to avoid using expired product. Adheres to hand hygiene policies Handles and stores chemicals in accordance with laboratory safety procedures. Operations Assumes major technical responsibility for the operation of the department. Maintains expertise in all test methods in the department. Researches new processes to streamline workflow. Perform, evaluate, troubleshoot, and document proper quality control procedures Adjusts daily work assignments in response to staffing shortages or workload demands in order to complete testing within acceptable turn-around times. Recommends changes in operation of the department to improve overall service. Troubleshoots and solves technical problems. Utilizes company service when warranted. Ensures instrumentation is well maintained. If a problem occurs, ensures workflow has been directed to alternate methodologies until the problem is resolved. Supervision/Leadership Provides direct oversight of the department. Maintains awareness of all activities in the department and takes appropriate action to ensure a smooth, efficient workflow. Completes performance evaluations using documented information concerning employee performance in a timely manner. Prepares and conducts disciplinary action as appropriate. Completes stay interviews annually. Approves timecards and manages employee payroll system. Reviews and approves all time off requests. Responsible for periodic review and development of SOPs in PolicyStat Maintains orientation, training and competency records for technologists/technicians. Revise as needed. All data is maintained in an organized fashion for review and inspection purposes. Assist with equipment acquisition and implementation. Works with the lab IT department on computer updates and changes to meet the department's service needs. Directs staff to ensure accreditation and safety standards are met. Provides safety training and monitors staff to ensure they follow safety guidelines and use appropriate PPE’s. Plans schedules for staffing coverage. Provides schedules to staff in advance. Makes sure there is appropriate staffing to meet department needs. Interviews applicants and makes recommendations on hiring of new staff. Reviews qualifications of applicants. Works with HR to expedite hiring of qualified applicants. Maintains monthly expenses within budgetary limits. Informs manager and director when unexpected expenses arise. Reviews monthly detailed expense reports. Is able to explain variances to the manager. Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned. Accepts new challenges willingly. Involved in process improvement activities. Trains Medical Technologists and Technicians to troubleshoot. Develops effective training programs for staff. Manages annual proficiency testing program renewal. Communicates proficiency test program selections to Management for reporting to regulatory agencies. Completes annual review/revision of organizational policies Completes daily review of patient test results EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT(S): Must be licensed as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist by the New York State Education Department. ASCP or AMT certification as a Medical Technologist required. Baccalaureate degree or a foreign equivalent in Medical Technology or related science field. Must meet NYS Department of Health qualifications for Laboratory Supervisor as stated in Public Health Law Part 58.1-1.5. Minimum six years’ experience in a clinical laboratory environment as a licensed Clinical Laboratory Technologist, three years in a supervisory role preferred. Must have strong leadership skills. Independent, mature, self-motivated, reliable and responsible Able to serve the needs of patients ages neonatal to geriatric. Able to deal with all types of customers in a pleasant, professional manner. Must possess excellent organizational skills and be able to handle numerous tasks simultaneously. Salary Range: $38.59-$57.89 /hour Pay is based on experience, skills, and education. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates. The pay range may also vary within the state.

Requirements
