About The Position

UPMC Presbyterian is seeking a motivated and experienced professional to join our team as a Supervisor of Laboratory Office Services. This leadership role offers a consistent daylight schedule from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, with no weekends or holidays, supporting a healthy work-life balance. Based primarily at UPMC Presbyterian, this position also includes travel to UPMC Shadyside, Magee-Womens, and Mercy hospitals, providing a dynamic and collaborative work environment across multiple sites. The Supervisor will lead and support a dedicated, energetic team of laboratory support administrative assistants, ensuring efficient operations and high-quality service across all locations. The ideal candidate will bring strong organizational and leadership skills, with prior experience in personnel management highly preferred. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • At least 4 years' experience in a laboratory or medical office setting.
  • Act 34

Responsibilities

  • Supervises laboratory administrative support staff, assuming responsibility for their work performance and providing oversight of workflow and processes.
  • Establishes performance standards and completes performance review evaluations.
  • Develops policies and procedures, performing periodic reviews and modifying processes as needed to maintain standardization and regulatory compliance.
  • Provides coverage for laboratory administrative support roles as needed.
  • Ensures adequate support coverage in response to staff PTO, call-offs, and other absences.
  • Promote positive interdisciplinary relations and ensure ongoing problem solving to ensure quality patient care services.
  • Answer calls to the department and respond to routine requests for information, triage other calls to the appropriate professional.
  • Order, log and organize supplies for the department.
  • Initiate and participate in quality assurance projects designed to improve processing TAT customer satisfaction, and other metrics.
  • Compile periodic quality assurance data including turn-around times and quality event statistics.
  • Conduct root-cause analysis of deviations from established protocols and document results.
  • Provides analysis and recommendations as an individual contributor on smaller projects; may have some project responsibility within the department or across similar departments.
