Position Summary Under the direction of the Medical Director and/or director-level leadership, the Supervisor, Genetic Counseling Services provides operational and clinical oversight of Versiti genetic counseling services, including patient care and diagnostic testing. The role is accountable for day-to-day staff supervision and team execution to established programs and standards. The Supervisor contributes to strategic program development and participates in research program oversight in collaboration with medical and scientific partners, and manages external partnerships with clinical, academic, and community stakeholders. The Supervisor also leads advanced mentorship programs to support staff growth and represents the department through national committee participation, helping elevate Versiti's profile within the genetics and hematology communities.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree from an ACGC-accredited Genetic Counseling program required
  • ABGC Board Certification required
  • Minimum of 7 years experience as a certified genetic counselor required
  • Advanced expertise in specialty area of genetic counseling that aligns with Versiti mission and strategy required
  • Applied knowledge of clinical, medical, and laboratory genetics with emphasis on inherited hematologic disorders required
  • Ability to interpret and apply established clinical guidelines, regulatory standards, and laboratory policies required
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities in supporting professional staff through mentorship, feedback, and issue escalation required
  • Strong operational judgment to manage daily priorities, resolve routine issues, and escalate complex or strategic matters appropriately required
  • Effective written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills for interaction with clinical staff, professional partners, and providers required
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to balance clinical responsibilities and supervisory duties in a fast paced environment, and ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team structure required
  • Proficiency with standard office software, laboratory information systems, and electronic medical record platforms required

Responsibilities

  • Operational and Clinical Oversight- -Oversees daily diagnostic laboratory genetic counseling workflows to ensure timely, accurate, ethical, and compliant service delivery -Ensures adequate genetic counseling support as part of the clinical services provided through the Comprehensive Center for Bleeding Disorders (CCBD) -Serves as a liaison between diagnostic laboratories and healthcare providers by providing consultative support regarding genetic risk assessment, test selection and utilization, and informed consent. Clearly, competently, and compassionately communicates testing and result information to clinicians, patients, and families.
  • Staff Supervision and Workforce Management- -Provides direct supervision to genetic counseling staff, including work assignment, prioritization, and day-to-day performance monitoring. -Coaches staff on clinical quality, documentation, and professional practice expectations. -Demonstrates and fosters a commitment to lifelong learning and professional development. Fosters respectful and inclusive interactions with patients, colleagues, and partners. -Provides regular ad-hoc feedback, performs performance evaluations, and appropriately escalates performance or capacity concerns.
  • Academic and Research Endeavors- -Monitors adherence to regulatory, accreditation, and compliance requirements. -Identifies workflow inefficiencies or quality risks and recommends operational improvements for approval.
  • Teaching, Outreach, and Networking- -Develop and deliver educational content for students, peers, and community audiences. -Lead team in envisioning and supporting the education of learners from Versiti and community partners. -Oversee team's application of genetics and blood disorder knowledge to enhance community initiatives aimed at improving patient and family understanding and experiences.
  • Collaboration and Administrative Responsibilities- -Serves as liaison between internal partners to support service delivery and issue resolution -Completes required documentation, reporting, and other duties as assigned.
