About The Position

MTC is proud to operate the Joliet Job Corps Center in Joliet, IL, where staff provide quality services to local youth. This position directly supervises senior cooks, cooks, and culinary workers and is responsible for the management of food services, which include the cafeteria and special food services, in compliance with government and management directives.

Requirements

  • Five years food service experience required, one of which must be in a supervisory capacity
  • Valid food handler’s permit if required in state of employment
  • Computer proficiency required
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record

Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate and manage the administrative and food services activities of the department
  • Provide staff training, evaluate staff performance, implement departmental and personnel changes as approved by the finance & administration director, and coordinated with the manager, human resources prior to implementation
  • Develop the departmental budget; monitor and control expenditures; review and recommend changes to budget authorizations
  • Develop and implement new and revised policies and procedures affecting food services; coordinate with other departments to promote center objectives
  • Regularly assess and audit department for contractual compliance and quality of services to students; prepare audit and assessment reports
  • Provide appetizing, nutritious and realistically proportioned meals in a clean, comfortable environment
  • Ensure quality of production and food purchase requirements; maintain cost control to stay within budget limitations
  • Conduct regular inspections of food service areas and ensure proper documentation and records maintenance of all inspections. Maintain quality standards
  • Coordinate with and provide support to the culinary arts training program; manage instruction of culinary arts trainees assigned to practicum in the cafeteria
  • Manage preparation of food services for special center functions, visitors and off-center work based learning assignments
  • Log menu items seven days in advance in the MTC Student App, including dietary preferences or allergies, if applicable
  • Fulfill to-go meal orders from the MTC Student App for work-based learning students or any other students that need one
  • Provide positive, quality customer services to students, staff and other center customers
  • Participate in student employability programs and activities
  • Support, promote, and enforce the Job Corps’ Zero Tolerance Policy
  • Promote the development of Career Success Standards by modeling appropriate behaviors, mentoring students where necessary and monitoring both positive and negative behaviors through interventions
  • Maintain accountability of staff, students and property; adhere to safety practices.
