OSFM is recruiting for a Supervisor Deputy State Fire Marshal (Supervisor Deputy State Fire Marshal) that will be assigned to the Northwest Oregon Region. As the Supervisor Deputy State Fire Marshal, you will directly supervise five (5) or more Deputy State Fire Marshals; participate in the unit’s and the agency’s program analysis and reviews and evaluate and recommend program regulations and operating policies. Additionally, you will oversee, coordinate and provide fire and life safety code interpretation and enforcement, fire cause investigation, and fire prevention education services in an assigned region. Requirements

  • Three (3) years of full-time experience or five (5) years of part-time supervisory experience in fire suppression or fire inspection and three (3) years of experience in fire prevention work and structural fire safety (code enforcement)
  • one (1) year of full-time project leader experience with responsibility for one (1) or more of the following: Fiscal and Budgetary Procedures Personnel Management Supervision Governmental Organization
  • An ICC Fire Inspector II Certification or ability to obtain certification within six months from date of employment.
  • An ICC Fire Plans Examiner Certification or ability to obtain certification within six months from date of employment.
  • Requires a valid drivers’ license with an acceptable driving record.
  • The expectation for this position is that employee will be able to maintain a 45-minute or less response time to the border of their district.
  • ICC Fire Code Inspector II Certification (within six months from the date of hire)
  • ICC Fire Plans Examiner Certification (within six months from the date of hire)
  • DPSST NFPA Fire Inspector II Certification (within six months from the date of hire)
  • OSFM Competency Recognition Oregon Fire Marshal: Plans Review Endorsement (within six months from the date of hire)
  • DPSST NFPA Fire Instructor I Certification (within twelve (12) months from the date of hire)
  • DPSST NFPA Fire Investigator Certification (within twelve (12) months from the date of hire)

Nice To Haves

  • 10 years’ experience as a career firefighter.
  • 3 years or more of supervisory experience as a fire command officer (typically a Captain/Lieutenant) or above).
  • Demonstrated ability to assign work to staff and determine a work schedule to address those needs.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently interpret and apply fire codes and fire laws to local jurisdictions and the community.
  • Demonstrated experience and ability to independently validate fire cause and origin determinations and ensure the integrity and legal significance of fire evidence.
  • Demonstrated high level, public speaking communication abilities in various complex environments.
  • Demonstrated ability in project management and budget implementation.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully navigate conflict resolution scenarios.
