About The Position

Supervise and ensure safe and efficient operations for Undergraduate Drama Costume Shop including costume construction, and maintainence of facilities, equipment and materials. Evaluate and assign costume projects to student staff/crew; construct complex costume projects beyond skill level of student employees; maintain schedule for production-based goals as determined by Costume Director, and evaluate progress. Facilitate technical development and competence of student staff in use of equipment, costume construction, troubleshooting and repair methods. Establish and enforce appropriate safety procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Arts degree in theatre or related field
  • 2 years' relevant experience or an equivalent combination. Must include experience with costume construction, production space management, theatrical productions, and staff supervision.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and team building skills.
  • Knowledge of draping and pattern drafting and current costume construction techniques including machine and hand sewing, dying fabric painting, millinery, and crafts.
  • Familiarity with word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software.
  • Ability to work on evenings and weekends.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in Fine Arts with a concentration in costuming
  • Specific knowledge of speciality areas, e.g., tailoring, dying, millinery, etc.
  • Expert in draping and pattern drafting.
  • Completion of a costume construction/design training program.
