About The Position

Responsible for the oversight, guidance, engagement, and direction of the ED Work group staff. The Supervisor is responsible for the competency, scheduling, coaching and motivation, engagement, and performance evaluation of the work group staff members. The Supervisor is responsible for maintaining a comprehensive knowledge of contemporary health record and coding practices and requirements. The Supervisor is responsible for staying abreast of regulatory requirements, as well as advancements in health information and coding software. The Supervisor actively applies continuous improvement principles in daily activities and actively engages the work group in improvements which result in high performance, low cost, and low waste. Nice To Haves

  • Experience - 5+ years of Coding Experience
  • Education - Associates degree in Health Information Management
  • Certifications - Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) - American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA); or Certified Professsional Coder (CPC) - American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC); or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) - American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA); or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) - American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA)

Responsibilities

  • Facilitates operational and financial performance of facility/product line financials by interacting with key areas with guidance from the Director of Finance to seek resolution by: - Serving as a resource for implementation of operational plan goals such as new service development or work redesign efforts, - Providing support to department managers, facility and/or product line administration via special reports and analysis as requested as well as serving as a general resource for financial information, - Driving process to resolve financial performance issues as identified through budget variances and/or variances from MH standards. Resolving financial issues through ongoing monitoring and assessment. Ensure effective monitoring systems are in place to identify issues, develop, and implement appropriate corrective action steps for resolution.
  • Accurately and efficiently codes and inputs charges for all assigned patient records within the clinic and hospital within established time frames. Handles all appeals related to those charges and follows guidelines for accurate coding.
  • Accurately enters and completes patient abstract information.
  • Answers routine coding questions and serves as expert level resource for complex coding issues.
  • Participates in tasks which require resolution of coding or compliance questions with assistance of Director or Coordinator.
  • Assists with effective communication to employees that support integrated initiatives in a comprehensive, consistent manner, as evidenced by department indicators and outcomes measures that are reported to the Director on a regular basis.
  • Exercises independent judgment with regard to maintaining the confidentiality of personal health information in accordance with the HIPAA Privacy Standards and the policies of Monument Health. Consults Supervisor, Director, Privacy Officer or Staff Counsel as necessary.
  • Assists in completing employee time cards according to personnel policies.
  • Hires, supervises, and evaluates staff. Develops schedules and provides staffing on a daily basis.
  • Refers unresolvable issues to Director, Coordinator, or Corporate Responsibility.
  • All other duties as assigned.
