About The Position

Under general supervision, supervises building security monitors providing protection for buildings and property. Responds to emergencies. Staff’s security posts as needed.

Requirements

  • Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Four years of experience in the field of security, law enforcement, and/or military policing.
  • Possession of a non-commercial, class C Maryland driver’s license or an equivalent is required.
  • Knowledge of the principals and practices of building security.
  • Knowledge of fire and building safety.
  • Knowledge of alarm systems.
  • Skill in providing building security.
  • Skill in responding to emergency situations.
  • Ability to supervise security employees.
  • Ability to determine the proper courses of action in emergency situations.
  • Ability to maintain records and produce reports.
  • Ability to maintain confidential information.
  • Persons appointed to this classification are designated as Essential Personnel and are required to work when schools and/or offices are closed during adverse weather conditions or any other emergency.
  • Persons appointed to this class will work on either a rotating or fixed shift basis and are subject to call to duty or may be required to work overtime with little or no advanced notice.
  • Work schedules will include evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Citizenship, residency or work VISA in United States required

Nice To Haves

  • Two years of experience supervising or leading others in the field of security, law enforcement, or military policing is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises security and call center operations on evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Schedules and approves leave time for building security monitors.
  • Ensures that adequate coverage is provided.
  • Responds to reports of break-ins, emergencies, and other major incidents.
  • Assess and documents incidents.
  • Determines an immediate response, informs agency management of the situation, and takes action as directed.
  • Checks buildings and grounds in an assigned area.
  • Reports incidents of property damage or criminal activity.
  • Responds to burglar and fire alarms.
  • Assists in conducting security surveys.
  • Receives and responds to service calls from schools and offices.
  • Ensures that emergency and regular maintenance requests are being managed in a timely manner.
  • Tracks and reports on the status of work orders.
  • Keeps attendance and work assignment records.
  • Documents security activities.
  • Prepares reports of accidents, vandalism, break-ins, and other maintenance incidents.
  • Serves as a liaison to the police department.
  • Provides training, advice and guidance to building security monitors.
  • Assists in developing related policies and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
