About The Position

Works with limited oversight to coordinate and supervise the activities of Criminal Court Clerk staff who work in the office. These positions work together to provide direct supervision of staff to ensure coverage, effective and efficient functioning, proper maintenance of records, labeling of exhibits and accurate documentation of all activities. Pay Grade: 49 Salary Commensurate with Experience and Education.

Requirements

  • Two (2) years of experience in a lead or supervisory capacity within a criminal justice agency/office providing staff coordination and guidance; AND
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in criminal justice, public administration, management or related field; OR
  • An equivalent combination of related education and experience.
  • PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED.
  • Must possess a valid Tennessee driver’s license or secure one as of employment date.
  • Knowledge of the criminal court processes in Shelby County, TN.
  • Knowledge of supervision and management techniques.
  • Knowledge of all activities to be supervised.
  • Skilled in written and oral communication and the ability to establish positive working relationships with reports.
  • Ability to coordinate and direct the activities assigned personnel creating a professional work environment.
  • Ability to coordinate training for new staff and ongoing continuing education for all of their reports.

Responsibilities

  • Directs the work activities of employees who work in the criminal courts and is accountable for determining resource needs, the allocation of resources and being sure they are used effectively.
  • Works with the Criminal Court Clerk and Administration to determine assignments to staff and specific duties that are deemed necessary within established work schedules to ensure all functions have acceptable coverage.
  • Works with Administration to maintain accurate operations manuals and Policies and Procedures for the courtroom staff.
  • Assists with development of training procedures/materials and career development of staff.
  • Works with the Director of Operations to make decisions on personnel actions such as progressive discipline and completes interim and yearly evaluations.
  • Investigates and responds to complaints from internal and external customers working with the Administration to ensure that problems are addressed and prevented in the future.
  • Performs other related duties as required or directed.
