About The Position

Emerald Coast Behavioral Hospital provides inpatient treatment services to adolescents and adults at its 86-bed facility in Panama City, FL, and outpatient services at four centers throughout the Florida Panhandle. The hospital also offers specialized treatment for active-duty military members through its Military Resiliency Program, specialized chemical dependency treatment, and TMS therapy for chronic depression. The Supervisor of Assessment & Referral assists the Director of Assessment & Referral with the administrative oversight and clinical supervision of the Admissions and Referral Department. This role involves supervising staff in patient access to care and behavioral health assessment services, including call management, clinical evaluations for level of care, crisis intervention, admissions, and referrals. The supervisor helps ensure departmental adherence to policies and procedures, regulatory compliance, service excellence, and data entry/management. They are also involved in developing and managing efficient admission processes, as well as hiring, training, performance evaluations, competency assessments, scheduling, and disciplinary actions for staff. Additionally, the supervisor performs Assessment Specialist duties during assigned shifts.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in nursing required.
  • Two (2) years’ experience in nursing required.
  • Current FL RN License or Compact State License.
  • Thrives in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Strong team building skills.
  • Understands fiscal and operational responsibilities.
  • Ability to work Monday-Friday, 3pm to 11:30pm.
  • Ability to adjust personal schedule to accommodate the needs of the facility.
  • 24-hour on-call status as scheduled.
  • Successful completion of a Level II background Screening.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing preferred.
  • Acute behavioral health experience preferred.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees and monitors the assessment & referral process to ensure quality assessments, appropriate admissions as well as appropriate referrals are provided.
  • Maintain effective lines of communication between the staff and the physician as the staff must work in conjunction with the admitting physician to establish appropriateness of admission, establish clinical diagnosis and treatment.
  • Oversees telephone triage activities.
  • Monitors triage calls and information provided during the telephone triage such as offering assessment, referral information provided, access emergency medical or police services when needed.
  • Ensures documentation of calls into computer-based systems.
  • Prepares schedule and in conjunction with Director, monitors FTE’s and stays within operating budgets.
  • Administers staffing levels of both clinical and non-clinical direct care staff.
  • Monitors staff for adequacy in provision of care.
  • Directs staff rotations and reschedules personnel to meet increased or decreased service demands.
  • Assists the Director in hiring, training, performance evaluations, competency assessments, scheduling, and disciplinary actions of staff.
  • Ensures staff is knowledgeable and competent to perform duties by providing orientation, training, and continuing education.
  • Assures appropriate work production and documentation in accordance with policies and regulations through audits, supervision, and goal setting.
  • Performs Assessment Specialist duties to include but not limited to triage, psychosocial screenings and evaluations of all patients, voluntary and involuntary, who present to the facility with a primary psychiatric, behavioral, or substance abuse complaint.
  • Provides accurate evaluation of medical necessity, offering alternative levels of care when feasible.
  • Evaluates referral for any medical issues and concerns.
  • Reviews with Physicians to determine facilities medical capability.
  • Initiates a collection and assessment of information for payers; completes pre-certification and continued stay authorization.
  • Works with and serves as back-up to utilization review.
  • In the absence of the Director, assumes the responsibility for the role as assigned.
