About The Position

Position Overview: The Referral Supervisor leads the referral coordination team, ensuring that patient referrals are processed accurately, efficiently, and on time across the organization. This role involves managing daily operations, including insurance verification, appointment scheduling, provider communication, and care coordination. The supervisor is responsible for hiring, training, and managing the performance of staff while ensuring adherence to organizational policies and healthcare regulations. This position plays a key role in ensuring a smooth patient journey by facilitating communication and ensuring seamless transitions to specialists or external facilities with a strong emphasis on process improvement and team development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in health education or related field.
  • 1 year of experience in Healthcare Administration, referral coordination, or a related area.
  • Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems and insurance verification processes.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise, train, onboard, and manage the performance of referral coordinators.
  • Assist with hiring, scheduling, and conducting performance reviews.
  • Oversee the full referral lifecycle from intake to scheduling and follow-up ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and completeness.
  • Address complex issues related to referrals, insurance requirements, and provider coordination.
  • Develop, implement, and standardize referral procedures in line with healthcare regulations and organizational policies.
  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA, documentation standards, and internal protocols.
  • Act as a liaison between providers, departments, external health systems, and patients.
  • Recommend workflow and system improvements to enhance efficiency and care delivery.
  • Track referral metrics, identify bottlenecks, and implement process improvements.
  • Develop standards, optimize workflows, and guide staff through complex processes, including insurance verification, provider communication, and EMR/REF system navigation.
  • Obtain and maintain a Community Health Worker (CCHW) certification and/or Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) certification.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
