About The Position

Fort Benton Public Schools is seeking an innovative, student-centered, and highly collaborative educational leader to serve as both Middle/High School Principal and Superintendent. This unique dual-role position requires a visionary individual who can guide district-level operations while also providing daily leadership within the middle/high school environment. The ideal candidate will be committed to fostering academic excellence, supporting staff, and building strong relationships with students, families, and the community.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Educational Leadership
  • Valid Montana state certification/licensure for both Superintendent and Principal roles (or ability to obtain).
  • Successful leadership experience in school administration; superintendent experience preferred but not required.
  • Strong understanding of curriculum, instruction, assessment, and school improvement processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex budgets and district operations.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and decision-making skills.
  • Commitment to equity, student-centered leadership, and collaborative problem solving.
  • Master’s degree or better in Educational Leadership with a Superintendent endorsement
  • Valid Montana Administrator’s certification with appropriate administrative endorsements upon hire

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic direction for the district, ensuring alignment with the School Distirct mission, goals, and policies.
  • Oversee district operations, including curriculum, instruction, finance, facilities, transportation, food services, and technology.
  • Develop and manage the district budget, ensuring fiscal responsibility and transparency.
  • Recruit, supervise, and evaluate district-level staff; support professional development and organizational growth.
  • Communicate clearly and consistently with the School Board, staff, families, and community stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, reporting requirements, and accreditation standards.
  • Lead long-term planning efforts, including strategic initiatives, facility improvements, and school safety planning.
  • Represent the district in regional, state, and professional organizations.
  • Provide daily instructional leadership for the middle/high school, promoting high levels of student engagement and academic achievement.
  • Supervise and evaluate teachers and support staff; foster a positive, collaborative school culture focused on continuous improvement.
  • Guide the development and implementation of curriculum, assessment practices, and instructional strategies that meet the needs of all learners.
  • Support student well-being by promoting safe, inclusive, and supportive school environments.
  • Oversee student discipline, attendance, scheduling, and building-level operations.
  • Engage families in meaningful partnerships that support student success.
  • Lead school improvement initiatives and monitor progress toward goals.
  • Coordinate extracurricular, athletic, and co-curricular programs to enhance the student experience.
