About The Position

With more than 11,000 employees, HII’s Ingalls Shipbuilding division is the largest manufacturing employer in Mississippi and a major contributor to the economic growth of Alabama. For nearly 85 years, we’ve designed, built and maintained amphibious ships, destroyers, and cutters for the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Coast Guard. The largest supplier of U.S. Navy surface combatants, we’re simultaneously building four classes of ships and have pioneered the development and production of technologically advanced, highly capable ships for the surface Navy fleet for decades. The RoleSupervises, assigns, coordinates and evaluates semi-skilled and skilled trades personnel according to their skill, experience and job knowledge. Supervises and trains employees to improve quality and quantity of work performed. Recommends training to enhance skill and productivity of employees, and assists in development of training procedures. Breaks broad strategies down to practical action plans and ensures employees are trained to perform these plans. Responsible for complying with all technical aspects of the job including adherence to all drawings, procedures, etc. Responsible for manufacturing, installation, operation, testing, and process operations that have a significant financial impact on the company's performance. Supervises qualified trades staff; monitoring job and budget performance for all shifts. Responsible for daily operations of a team or work unit (direct supervision of the staff, assignment of work, schedules, day to day workflow, and operating costs). Assignments are received in task oriented terms. Provides direction to subordinates using established policies and precedents. Monitors work operations and actively assists or provides direction to subordinates as required. Executes department procedures that typically affect individual employees within own department. Policy management: Administers and executes policies and procedures that typically affect individual subordinate employees. Monitors daily operations of a unit and actively assists, or provides direction to, subordinates as required. Ensures that projects are completed on schedule following established procedures and schedules Additional common management responsibilities as listed in Shipbuilding Management Charter 0001 within command media (SBMC 0001) and applicants should review the Charter and policies and procedures before applying for position.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma and 8 years of experience with 4 years in a craft management role.
  • Must be willing and able to work any shift

Nice To Haves

  • Proven leadership ability
  • Communication and relationship skills – able to deal effectively with all levels of Ingalls and customer reps.
  • Construction experience in a marine setting is preferred
