About The Position

The Superintendent, Rail Facilities Maintenance is responsible for managing supervisors, employees, contractors, and consultants who maintain MetroLink stations, park-and-ride facilities, tunnel ventilation and fire suppression systems, and related facility assets. Under the direction of leadership, this role mentors front-line supervisors, supports winter storm readiness, and ensures work is completed safely, within operating and capital budgets, and in alignment with Federal Transit Administration (FTA) asset management requirements. This role also coordinates with internal departments on major rail facilities projects to support safe and reliable service. Metro's primary person responsible for MetroLink rail facilities and Right of Way, focusing on maintaining all transit assets in a state of good repair and improving the customer experience.

Requirements

  • Comprehensive knowledge of building structures, including maintenance and inspection procedures.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of plumbing, electrical, HVAC, rail support equipment, and building-support systems, including maintenance and inspection procedures.
  • Working knowledge of the operation and maintenance of tools and equipment used to complete facility maintenance tasks.
  • Thorough knowledge of procedures used to diagnose and correct facility-related defects.
  • Strong ability to interpret building plans, blueprints, equipment drawings, and design documents.
  • Working knowledge of rail transit operations and service requirements.
  • Strong leadership and problem-resolution skills to manage personnel issues and facility maintenance challenges.
  • Ability to develop, implement, and update preventive and corrective maintenance programs.
  • Ability to analyze inspection findings to identify maintenance trends and prioritize corrective actions.
  • Ability to plan maintenance schedules across weekly, monthly, and annual horizons and adjust priorities as operational needs change.
  • Ability to identify tool, equipment, and vehicle requirements needed to support maintenance programs.
  • Ability to develop, manage, and monitor operating and capital budgets.
  • Ability to direct and monitor contractors, consultants, and direct reports to meet performance expectations and service requirements.
  • Ability to operate facility and maintenance tools and equipment safely in accordance with applicable standards and procedures.
  • Minimum of (10) ten years of related professional experience; minimum of (5) five years of leadership experience.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains MetroLink station facilities, grounds, and equipment in accordance with applicable safety, industry, government, manufacturer, and Metro standards to support a safe environment for employees and customers.
  • Manages and mentors front-line supervisors and represented employees to ensure maintenance work is performed safely, efficiently, and in alignment with the Facilities Maintenance Plan and applicable standards.
  • Execute succession plan to sustain excellent performance well into the future.
  • Provides internal and external customer support for individuals and groups who interface with Rail Facilities Maintenance.
  • Manages material inventories, utilities, and equipment needed to support maintenance activities.
  • Supports labor contract compliance and day-to-day labor relations to promote consistent application and reduce grievances.
  • Develops and manages preventive maintenance inspections and related work activities using the Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) system.
  • Executes and tracks long-term asset management plans, supporting timely interventions such as refurbishment, replacement, or overhaul.
  • Conducts annual asset condition assessments to support compliance with Metro’s Transit Asset Management program.
  • Performs quality assurance inspections; establishes priorities and schedules; supports estimating and procurement of parts and materials; evaluates asset condition and replacement needs; and provides specifications for facility repairs and equipment.
  • Assists cost center managers with developing, justifying, and administering operating and capital budgets.
  • Supports Metro’s Public Transportation Agency Safety Plan (PTASP) and participates in safety compliance activities as assigned.
  • Develops, justifies, and administers the operating and capital budgets for assigned cost centers.
