About The Position

At BHP, we are a global resources company with operations in more than 90 locations worldwide. In Canada, our presence is growing with the development of the Jansen Potash Project, located about 140 kilometres east of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Jansen is set to become one of the largest and most sustainable potash mines on the planet, representing the largest private investment in Saskatchewan’s history. This project will create ~900 permanent roles once operating. The Superintendent Maintenance (underground) will report to the Maintenance Manager and will be responsible for supporting the assembly and ongoing routine maintenance of continuous boring machines, extensible belts, and auxiliary systems related to production mining. Ownership of additional assets will grow as the mine expands.

Requirements

  • Self-motivated with an aptitude for learning and understanding equipment operation and maintenance.
  • Holds certification as a mechanical engineer, mechanical technologist, project manager or a journeyperson in a suitable trade.
  • Applicable experience in underground mining, preferably potash and able to obtain/retain a Saskatchewan underground Supervisor ticket. (Minimum 3 Years)
  • Experience using an asset management system such as SAP
  • A strong safety conscious mindset.
  • Strong communication skills
  • An individual looking to be part of a positive team environment.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee assembly and overall mechanical maintenance of all underground assets including continuous mining machines, mobile equipment, conveyor belts and structural assets such as bins and feeders.
  • Ensure direct reports have the necessary tools, training and skillsets required to perform work safely.
  • Utilize the enterprise Maintenance system (SAP) to execute proper preventative maintenance plans and ensure key performance indicators related to in-field execution.
  • Manage department spending and drive future facing projects related to the department.
  • Be able to learn and adhere to applicable BHP company policies and procedures.
  • Engage in field safety activities (FLEX), risk assessments and toolbox meetings.
  • Support/maintain BHP Operating System practices which drive continuous improvement.
