About The Position

The Superintendent/Foreman oversees daily site operations for Earthwork projects, ensuring compliance with safety standards, design specifications, budget constraints, and project timelines. This role directly manages lead personnel and on-site staff to drive efficiency and quality. A typical day involves daily communication with General Superintendents regarding job-specific needs, including workforce and equipment requirements, and daily contact with job site crews to ensure project time schedules and workforce needs are met. The role also involves scheduling and monitoring subcontractors, maintaining a safe working environment, conducting daily Job Hazard Awareness meetings, daily stretching, and weekly Tool Box topics. The Superintendent/Foreman completes daily record keeping, including daily logs, equipment schedules, material schedules, and timecards. They manage field personnel fairly and equitably, address staff performance issues, participate in pre-construction and regular job site meetings, and provide timely and accurate documentation for reporting safety issues, equipment damage, and workplace injuries. They ensure all work follows specified quality standards, inspect field work and materials for quality compliance, review manufacturer’s literature and drawings, and respond to inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or business community members. Regular participation in training for construction methods and safety, and supporting training opportunities for staff are also key aspects. Requirements

  • Two to five years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • OSHA 30-hour certificate.
  • HAZWOPER certificate.
  • Excavating Safety Training.
  • Blueprint Training.
  • CPR certification.
  • First Aid certification.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret policies, reports, construction plans, construction specifications, and legal documents.
  • Ability to use Outlook, Word, Excel, iPad, and iPhone.
  • Ability to communicate and schedule project needs appropriately.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both orally and written with employees, clients, and other business associates.
  • Must clearly communicate directions and information.
  • Must be able to respond to inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or business community members.
  • Must have good interpersonal skills and speak effectively before groups and individuals.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical field quantity situations.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Must possess the ability to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test and background check.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and the ability to maintain a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record.
  • Must be over the age of 18.
  • Union affiliation or willingness to join the union is required.

Responsibilities

  • Directly manage lead personnel and on-site staff to drive efficiency and quality.
  • Communicate daily with General Superintendents regarding job-specific needs, including workforce and equipment requirements.
  • Maintain daily contact with job site crews to ensure project time schedule and workforce needs are being met.
  • Schedule subcontractors to complete work as needed.
  • Monitor subcontractor work to ensure work is complete per subcontractor agreement.
  • Maintain a safe working environment by identifying workplace hazards and taking corrective action when necessary.
  • Ensure employees have up-to-date information on safety procedures and policies.
  • Conduct daily Job Hazard Awareness meetings, daily stretching, and weekly Tool Box topics.
  • Complete daily record keeping, including daily logs, equipment schedules, material schedules, and timecards.
  • Manage field personnel fairly and equitably in accordance with Company policies and procedures and compliance with local and federal laws.
  • Address staff performance issues as they occur.
  • Participate in pre-construction meetings to discuss project start-up and project planning.
  • Prepare and participate in regular job site meetings throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Provide timely and accurate documentation for reporting safety issues, equipment damage, and workplace injuries according to Company policies and procedures.
  • Ensure all work follows specified quality standards.
  • Inspect field work and materials for quality compliance and review the assembly of the manufacturer’s literature and drawings before work begins.
  • Respond to inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or business community members.
  • Participate regularly in training for construction methods and safety.
  • Support training opportunities for staff.
  • Keep supervisor informed of known actions, written or verbal, which may affect the ability to perform assignments or adversely affect company operations successfully.
  • Lead safety initiatives across multiple service groups.
  • Provide leadership and supervision to field personnel in a fair and equitable manner, adhering to company policies and procedures and complying with local and federal laws.
  • Oversee, mentor, and develop staff by providing guidance, training, and performance evaluations to ensure high levels of efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Hire, train, develop, and review all direct reports, taking disciplinary action when necessary and in a timely manner, in accordance with company policy.
