Role Summary The Project Superintendent is the senior field execution leader responsible for safety, productivity, quality, schedule adherence, and craft performance for assigned electrical scopes. This role converts the project execution plan into disciplined daily and weekly field operations, ensuring union craft personnel are positioned to perform efficiently, safely, and in full compliance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA). The Superintendent serves as the primary conduit between on-site field operations and off-site project resources including Project Management, Planning/Layout/Design, Virtual Design & Construction (VDC/BIM), and Prefabrication teams.

Requirements

  • Journeyman-level electrical background strongly preferred.
  • Proven experience leading union electrical field operations on complex commercial/industrial projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to read/interpret drawings/specs, coordinate layouts, and execute plan-to-install.
  • Working knowledge of scheduling concepts and field-level cost control; strong communication and leadership skills.
  • Ability to walk job sites regularly, climb, bend, lift, and move intermittently throughout the workday.
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods and carry materials/equipment up to 20 lbs.
  • Ability to communicate clearly in person and by phone.
  • Must tolerate extended exposure to a computer monitor when completing administrative duties.
  • Primarily jobsite-based; regular travel to projects is required.
  • Must attend off-site meetings, training sessions, and company events as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience integrating VDC/BIM and prefab into field execution (work packaging, spooling, kitting, sequencing).
  • Familiarity with Lean/LPS-style weekly planning.
  • Experience supervising large crews and fast-track/multi-phase work.

Responsibilities

  • Lead union electrical crews in accordance with the CBA and local work rules.
  • Coordinate manpower loading, crew balance, and jurisdictional scope with General Foremen and stewards.
  • Maintain respectful, professional relationships with stewards and union representatives; resolve issues early.
  • Ensure fair work distribution, proper tool utilization, and clear task expectations.
  • Address performance issues promptly while preserving dignity and compliance.
  • Lead and manage electrical field operations for assigned scope (self-perform and oversight of subs as applicable).
  • Set daily production targets; run start-of-shift huddles; confirm labor, tools, access, and materials are ready.
  • Coach and hold Foremen accountable for safety, quality, and production; develop next-level field leaders.
  • Maintain a high-performance culture: measurable commitments, rapid obstacle removal, and consistent follow-through.
  • Own installation planning and layout execution in collaboration with Planning/Layout/Design and VDC.
  • Build and maintain phase plans, weekly work plans, constraint logs, and daily install-ready work packages.
  • Coordinate points, embeds, sleeves, and rough-in validation; ensure tolerances and access are field-verified.
  • Ensure work is install-ready before crews mobilize (drawings/models approved, materials kitted, access secured).
  • Interpret baseline schedule; identify critical path activities and electrical-driven constraints.
  • Lead weekly coordination planning with GC and trades; drive commitments and capture constraints.
  • Maintain rolling 3–6 week lookahead and make-ready process; escalate risks early with recovery proposals.
  • Understand cost structure: labor budget, production goals, material allowances, equipment rentals, and rework exposure.
  • Track field productivity (earned vs. actual), trend weekly, and implement corrective actions.
  • Validate that changes (RFIs/ASI/CCD/CO) translate into executable work plans and are captured in impacts (with PM/PE).
  • Support accurate cost coding/timekeeping practices through Foremen and project controls.
  • Implement and enforce the project safety plan; lead by example and maintain stop-work authority.
  • Conduct task planning/JHAs/STAs; ensure controls are in place; partner with Safety on audits and corrective actions.
  • Drive incident prevention through coaching, observation, and disciplined follow-up.
  • Ensure installation meets drawings/specs and company standards; perform quality checks and verify inspection readiness.
  • Reduce rework through pre-install reviews, model/drawing validation, and field verification.
  • Coordinate with QA/QC and commissioning/turnover needs as applicable.
  • VDC/BIM: Confirm constructibility; drive field-ready details; manage redlines and feedback loops; support as-builts.
  • Prefabrication: Drive release strategy (what, when, and how); ensure kitting/staging supports install sequencing.
  • Planning/Layout/Design: Coordinate layout control, sleeves/embeds, and field verification to prevent downstream rework.
  • Represent the electrical field plan in coordination meetings as delegated by the Project Executive.
  • Maintain professional relationships; protect operational position through proactive issue identification and documentation.
  • Daily reports: manpower, progress, delays, safety, deliveries, constraints, inspections, photos.
  • Capture delay events and productivity disruptions with dates, narratives, and impacts; support claims/change documentation.
  • Ensure timely communication of risks with recommended actions—no surprises.
