About The Position

Lead the strategic direction, support, maintenance, and optimization of mining and processing control systems to deliver safe, reliable, and high-performance Operational Technology (OT). In this role, you will: Provide leadership and technical authority for the availability, reliability, and integrity of DCS, PLC, and SCADA systems supporting mine, processing, and materials handling operations.‑handling operations Oversee the full lifecycle management of OT infrastructure covering patching, upgrades, obsolescence planning, and cybersecurity risk mitigation to ensure long-term stability, reliability, and compliance. Ensure reliability, integrity, and availability of OT systems to enable safe and stable operations. Drive and lead complex root‑cause investigations, implementing corrective and preventative actions to maximise uptime and increase MTBF. Maintain and enforce standards, specifications, drawings, and blueprint documentation for Control Systems. Provide clear technical leadership and direction to the Control Systems team, fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement. Manage Control Systems budgets and ensure disciplined investment aligned with operational and technology roadmaps. Collaborate closely with Operations, Engineering, Maintenance, Projects, and Technology teams to deliver consistent and integrated OT performance. Manage vendor relationships and service contracts to ensure compliance, performance, and value delivery. Work LocationDowntown, Saskatoon office. 40 hours per week. Hybrid working (flexible, shared workstations and a combination of office and work from home) is standard for BHP. This position will require regular travel to the Jansen Mine Site. The roster schedule may be adjusted based on business requirements or as operations progress.

Requirements

  • Hold tertiary qualifications in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related discipline.
  • Bring demonstrated experience with PLCs, DCS, SCADA systems, and industrial instrumentation.
  • Possess strong technical capability in troubleshooting, system architecture, OT lifecycle management, and incident resolution.
  • Experience acting as a technical authority for Control Systems or OT integration in a complex industrial environment.
  • Skilled in influencing, negotiating, and guiding technical direction with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Able to balance immediate operational priorities with long‑term reliability and digital technology strategies.
  • Operate with a high degree of autonomy, applying sound judgment and discretion in prioritising work.
  • Experienced in leading teams, setting objectives, mentoring others, and driving high performance.
  • Strong communicator who collaborates effectively across diverse teams and maintains strong vendor and partner relationships.

Nice To Haves

  • Ideally hold Functional Safety accreditation (e.g., TÜV Certified Engineer).
