About The Position

SCI REMC is looking for a qualified candidate for the Superintendent, Contractors. This position oversees contractor performance and field operations to ensure vegetation management and construction work are completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with organizational, RUS, and contractual standards. Responsibilities include contractor direction, quality and safety inspections, and support for operational planning, system improvements, member engagement, budget awareness, and storm readiness, with a strong focus on communication, technical expertise, accountability, and continuous improvement. Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in vegetation management, forestry, utility operations, or a related field to obtain a broad knowledge of the vegetation management process and priorities of system reliability.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and evaluate contractor performance and ensure compliance with safety, operational standards and reliability expectations.
  • Ability to interpret maps, easements, and technical documents
  • Ability to read and understand a contract or similar documents associated with Request for Proposal (RFP) process.
  • Must be able to maintain and possess a valid driver's license, CDL preferred.
  • Must be regular in attendance.
  • Physical Activity: Talking, hearing, repetitive motion, stooping, couching, standing, walking or moving through rough terrain, lifting and climbing stairs, as needed.
  • Visual Acuity: ability to determine the accuracy and thoroughness of the work including making general observations through the work area.
  • Ability to work in the field about 80% of the time and in the office 20% or as needed.
  • Ability to drive and safely operate a company vehicle.

Responsibilities

  • Contractor Management
  • Communicate priorities clearly and promptly to contractors in alignment with organizational policies and system reliability expectations.
  • Ensure contractors comply with SCI REMC policies, RUS standards and RFP cand Contract commitments.
  • Address contractor questions and provide ongoing support.
  • Review and validate work to ensure compliance with required standards.
  • Provide performance feedback and reinforce expectations to drive continuous improvement.
  • Quality Assurance & Field Inspections
  • Conduct inspections to ensure work quality, safety compliance, and adherence to standards.
  • Monitor job sites to reinforce safe work practices.
  • Address and resolve member inquiries or concerns related to operations and resolve issues within their authority, based on experience and judgement.
  • Review documentation and property rights to support accurate, compliant decision-making.
  • Coordination & Communication
  • Keep leadership informed of progress, challenges, and field conditions.
  • Coordinate with GIS to maintain accurate mapping and workflow updates.
  • Provide technical input for vegetation-related system improvement projects.
  • Operational & Organizational Support
  • Maintain working knowledge of contractor scheduling and practices to support operations.
  • Assist with construction planning and annual budgeting.
  • Support storm readiness by ensuring contracts and pricing are current.
  • Provide coverage for VM Superintendents and assist with contractor coordination as needed.
