About The Position

Responsible for mastering the advanced work-up on patients in all Ophthalmology subspecialties. Advanced work-up to include the basic work-up components, plus: over-refraction, visual field testing, OCT, and fundus photography. Responsible assisting in minor procedures and preparing patient for laser. Responsible for sterilization of equipment, medical surfaces, and instruments. Works closely and communicates continuously with clinical support team and providers to efficiently move patients through their visit. Must consistently to deliver an exceptional patient experience. Ability to assess common safety hazards and take precautions to establish a safe work environment. Must be able to utilize EMR system and work within meaningful guidelines. Greets patients in a warm and friendly manner, explains testing procedure, answers all questions, and provides education when necessary. In addition to these duties the role of a scribe is to assist the physician with documentation of the patient’s electronic medical record (EMR), record results of the exam, input prescriptions and orders, as well as, documenting future appointments. Outside of the exam room, the super tech will assist with patient phone calls and tasks within the EMR, provides educational material to patients and coordinates referrals when necessary.

Requirements

  • COA or COT Certification required, complete scribe training; position only available to current eligible Thomas Eye Group Employees
  • 2+ years in healthcare environment
  • A combination of experience, education, and/or training which substantially demonstrates the following knowledge, skills and abilities:
  • Familiar with EMR System
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills
  • Punctual and reliable
  • Ability to multitask, possess organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Conscientious about triage and escalation of issues
  • Excellent typing skills at least 45 wpm with accuracy
  • Proficient in listening and understanding abilities, willingness to learn on the job
  • Familiar with diagnostic codes, billing codes, MIPS/MACRA and compliance documentation
  • Empathetic Personality and demonstrates concern for patients' needs
  • Communicate and coordinate with team clinic workflow
  • Work collegially with all team members
  • Knowledge and comprehension of basic medical terminology and anatomy, and the principles of optics, refraction, and contact lenses; demonstrates familiarity with optical equipment
  • COA or COT Certification required.
