About The Position

This summer part-time position supports the work of the YMCA, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Swim Lesson Coordinator assists in the development, organization, and implementation of high-quality YMCA Swim Lesson programs. This is a highly visible role at the Y that must be performed in accordance with the policies, goals, values, and mission of the YMCA of Columbia, SC. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Manages, directs, teaches, and coordinates high quality swim lesson programs Assists the Aquatics Director in delivery of the summer swim lessons. Recruits, trains, develops, schedules, evaluates, and directs personnel and volunteers as assigned. Supports the development, management and control of departmental budgets related to assigned programs, ensuring the assigned programs operate within budget. Assures compliance with federal, state and local regulations. Ensures adherence to YMCA program standards and safety procedures. Performs high quality work within deadlines and expectations with or without direct supervision. Contributes to the upkeep of assigned program facilities and equipment. Responds to all agency, parent and community inquiries and complaints in a timely manner. Maintains proper records/department files. Compiles program statistics as requested. Supports the Y’s annual fundraising campaign. Serves effectively as a team contributor. Performs other duties as assigned. OUR CULTURE:Our mission and core values are brought to life by our culture. Requirements

  • Minimum age of 18.
  • Previous experience in swim instruction, aquatic programming, or lifeguarding.
  • Current certifications in CPR/AED and First Aid (or ability to obtain before start date)
  • Ability to complete Bloodborne Pathogens, Sexual Harassment and Child Abuse Prevention training before start of 1st shift.
  • Strong knowledge of water safety practices and swim lesson progression
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage schedules, rosters, and program logistics
  • Strong communication skills; ability to interact professionally with parents, participants, and staff
  • Ability to train, supervise, and support swim instructors in a fast-paced environment
  • Comfortable handling customer concerns and resolving issues calmly and effectively
  • Ability to plan, lead and participate in a range of activities in a variety of outdoor/indoor settings.
  • Must be able to perform all physical requirements of the position, including walking, standing, bending, reaching, and lifting up to 50lbs at a time.

  • Proven leadership or supervisory experience, especially with youth staff, preferred
