About The Position

Two Most Important Jobs of the Summer School Teacher: Engage in deep intellectual preparation and student work analysis to drive differentiated, student-led instruction. Ensure every scholar feels connected, celebrated, and challenged to think deeply and participate during each class. Arrive on time and stay until you are scheduled to leave (7:30 AM - 2:30 PM). Engage in daily intellectual preparation and scholar work analysis to have clarity around 1) exemplar scholar work & discussion, 2) potential misconceptions, and 3) questions and teacher moves to address misconceptions and push deeper thinking. Teach strong, discourse-based lessons. Study and give feedback on 100% of scholar work each day. Take Attendance daily. Call / text / email 10 scholars & parents / day with the goal of reaching every family at least 3 times over the summer (ideally weekly). ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Attending any school or network meetings Completing surveys (10 minutes max) 3-4 days over the summer Inputting pre/post assessment data in Illuminate Reading weekly emails Remember, we are all still Mandated Reporters. Partner teachers should follow the expectations and adult norms of their schools. UNFORTUNATELY, WE CANNOT ACCOMMODATE SPECIAL SCHEDULES DUE TO OUTSIDE OBLIGATIONS. COMPENSATION & HOURS: $20 per hour working from 7:30 AM to 2:30 PM with a 30-minute unpaid lunch break. Deadline to apply: May 8, 2026 Qualifications Key components of the program include: Mandatory Training Summer School + Excursions Training June 22, 8:00-4:30 - led by Joseph Gambino and Sara Williams Summer School + Excursions Training and Site-based Prep June 23, 8:00-4:30 - led by Joseph Gambino, Sara Williams, and Summer School Site Lead and Principal A 5-week student academic program: June 24 to July 24, 2026 Daily scholar schedule from 8:00am – 5:00pm Ongoing weekly PD for teachers, as well as observation and feedback. What does a typical day look like for Scholars? 8:00 - 8:15 am - Breakfast served 8:15 - 8:30 am - Morning Meeting 8:30 - 9:15 am - English Language Arts 9:15 - 9:25 am - BREAK 9:25 - 10:10 am - English Language Arts 10:10 - 10:20 am - BREAK 10:20 - 12:00 pm - Math 12:00-12:15 pm - Dismissal & Excursions Check-In 12:15-12:45 pm - Scholar Lunch (Excursions Scholars Only) 12:45-5:00 pm Enrichment activities through Fortune Excursions
